The Raven — Restaurant in England

I was here on Friday for a meal, and it was absolutely incredible. I can honestly say, as a vegan, I have never had so much option in a restaurant. I really could not believe just how much choice there was. I had Southern Fried Vegan Bites to start, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I then had the Vegan Sweet Potato and Chickpea Curry for main, which again, I was really impressed by. Both dishes were so flavoursome - there was a slight wait on food, but really nothing to complain about as they were significantly busy with it being Valentine's night. The portion for each dish was so generous, and each dish seemed to be so reasonably priced. I also loved the way in which desserts can be tailored according to variety of flavours - for example, you can have a warm Belgian waffle and then decide as to whether or not you would like that with chocolate orange, chocolate and vanilla, red berry or Lotus Biscoff, but you can choose any of these flavours to have with either a sundae, a brownie or churros. I had the Warm Belgian Waffle with Red Berry, and it was quite possibly one of the nicest desserts I have ever had! Overall, I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. I'm giving it more than one star due to previous experiences that were satisfactory. The beer is well kept with decent rotation. This evening however I'm not quite sure what to make of it. I went for a meal and sat down at 19:31; I just happened to see the time. Another table sat down a couple of minutes after me and they were given menus and had a drinks order taken. 15 minutes later I was still waiting, despite the staff being aware of my presence. At 20 minutes I thought I'd wait to see how long it would take. At 33 minutes I'd waited long enough. I told the two managers that I'd been sitting there for 33 minutes and one said 'it would have just taken a wave of the hand', the other said 'I didn't know what you wanted'. I replied, don't you ask? One of them said, not when we're busy, no. The folk at the other table didn't wave or ask but...perhaps because there were seven of them...I don't know. I said I was going to go over the road to the other pub. I was told, 'that's your prerogative'. Now, mistakes happen, misunderstandings... I would wonder if I should have done more myself but the table next to me didn't have to. I'll go back for beer in the future but the defensive response was quite a surprise, wholly unapologetic, and leaves an unpleasant taste...

Went with my husband for a date night. As someone requiring a gluten-free menu, I was taken away by the incredible selection available. I was given a dedicated menu that was almost the same size as the standard and offered almost identical options. I am so used to the GF offering being a much smaller selection that it was a pleasant surprise to be able to pick the same great food as my husband. I chose a standard burger and then some bacon fries as a side. The portion sizes were so good, we both left feeling full. The service was great. When we arrived, we were told that due to staffing, the service would be a bit longer, but we didn't wait any longer than we have waited anywhere else, and the waiting staff were friendly and welcoming. The food quality was great, with the burger not being a thick, chewy burger, but rather fresh and full of flavour, with just enough toppings to not overpower it. As for fries, they were fantastic!
