Visited here as a party of 7 including one sleeping baby and one very well behaved 3 year old. Arrived at 8.30ish, and after a period of time deciding what to order, went to the bar. The staff member who served us said if we have children then we have to leave by half 9, to which we explained that we'd just got there, obviously there would be cooking time and eating time, so we asked what would happen if half 9 rolled around and we hadn't ate, and she said well we give a bit of leeway, but if the managers come down they'll say leave, I said to the other people I was with that if that's the attitude then we might as well go elsewhere. The staff member then asked how many people were in the party, upon hearing 7, her attitude changed completely and she said okay I guarantee if you stay the children won't be a problem on this occasion. So we stayed, ordered over £80 of food and drink between us. When the food arrived at 9.45 a well done steak arrived with blood pouring out of it, which is the equivalent of ordering chips and being served a potato. This was obviously sent back, and brought back medium rare about 10 minutes later.

The rest of us ate and whilst waiting for the pesom who ordered the delayed, undercooked steak to finish I took my 3 year old niece to the arcade like machines, which were still in use, no notice saying don't use after an agreed time, paid £2 which gives 8 goes, each go is a guaranteed win, so if you don't win it does not take a go. After about 10 minutes we finished all goes, only to be greeted by an obnoxious, rude member of staff, who said "leave now, it's past 10" we explained the situation that the fold didn't come until 9.40, the steak was undercooked, and the bar member said she guarantees it won't be a problem. She wasnt interested and essentially turfed us out of the place. Her attitude and demeanour confirmed what people had said before our visit, which is that the staff do not care about general customs and only care about their their regulars. Will never visit again and hope for humanities sake that ever staff member moves to non customer facing roles.

Avoid at all costs. Go hungry before...

Cheap food and drink. Friendly staff. Never had any bad meal from here even though its cheap. We go often.

Edit to review- January 2024- Be careful if you take your dogs into the bar type area. My dog found a chicken bone (there were several more) which must have been swept/kicked under the stand for the table. Dog managed to swallow it- outcome is as yet unknown. I have left to monitor my dogs condition.

Whilst leaving I attempted to tell the lone member of bar staff as I left the pub that there were chicken bones on the floor in the bar area and my dog had just swallowed one, so staff might want to check there so that it doesn't happen again to someone. The person didn't even acknowledge verbally or with body language that I told them something a nod of the head or a 'please wait a moment' nor an OK or an 'I hear you'... Nothing. I said to them very clearly, excuse me, did you hear any of what I said to you. They answered yes I did. I said thanks, I am asking because I didn't know if you hear me because you gave no acknowledgement at all.

No one is blaming the staff or the pub for the chicken bones under the table stand... But it might be nice if staff acknowledged when a customer has spoken to them. I was not overly polite but I certainly was not rude. I was not impressed to have staff be completely un-responsive when I've told them something which I feel they should know.

I'd prefer them to at least respond to show acknowledgement - no matter if they are positive or negative. A response is usually polite regardless of what that response is.

Will I return... Debatable.

I may try it once more... But if staff are not responsive to customers then I doubt it. Until this date I have always given this pub a great...

As a regular visitor to our local Greene King in Worcester which serves great food consistently I wish I could give this pub more than 1 star.

Initially we walked in unknowing the procedure for tables so asked a waitress who said ‘just sit anywhere if you can find a table’, which we did & proceeded to order on the app. The same waitress came and dumped our food on our table after approximately 10 minutes of ordering which says it all really.

The food was definitely microwaved, the lasagne genuinely looked as if it was regurgitated, my eldest asked what on Earth his food was as he couldn’t tell that it was chicken, the chips were inedible and mostly cold, my steak pie didn’t really have any steak in it, more chewy fatty meat & the mash was hard on the corners where it had been over-microwaved.

Devastated we didn’t order burgers as the next table did and when they were brought out they actually looked as if they had been cooked and seemed very appealing.

To top it off, our drinks were brought out long after our food once I’d asked another waitress if we could have them as it would be nice to have them prior to our meals. She returned advising me they had no still water and could only offer me tap which is free, so ultimately I paid for drinks I did not receive.

None of us finished our food, we didn’t even half eat our meals but I couldn’t wait to get out of there, away from the sticky tables & staff with attitude. This was 100% the worst food we have ever received & on the way back we all agreed we’d rather have gotten a Burger King from...

Probably deserves 3.5 stars. Pub is one of the better ones in Thornaby. Covid rules are being followed, we were asked to download the track and trace app before entering. We ordered the drinks and lunch through the Greene King app. The drinks took around 10 mins to arrive and the food followed about 10-15 mins after that. Food was ok, the sweetcorn was very juicy. Everything was cooked well, the meal would have benefited if the chips were home made. Staff were courteous but going through the motions with the exception of the guy who was in the door welcoming and seating people. He had a personality about him. The staff did come round twice enquiring if the food was ok, which it was. All in all the pub is quite nice. It was lovely to sit outside in the sun, the tables and parasols looked quite new and it felt like there was plenty of space around us. The bill for two drinks and two meals was just under £25.

Visit to The Roundel began well enough with easy parking facilities, but soon took an ominous turn when greeted with rowdy kids and teenagers blocking the entrance area (to be expected at this time of year - summer holidays - if I'm being charitable). Nonetheless, not entirely the pub's fault for that, but the quality of food, the price and service certainly is within their remit. On the service front, the staff were pleasant, attentive and quick. The food, though, was particularly poor. It may look deceptive in the photo, but this version of a double cheeseburger meal was burnt to a crisp and dry as a bone. For £20, too, the cost didn't mitigate the poor quality offer. Compared to, say, the Norman Conquest in Normanby, I'd have to say The Roundel is found lacking and only really worth a visit if no alternative is available (hint: there are plenty of better alternatives nearby).

Visited The Roundel last night with Autism Matters and it was honestly the best pub meal that I've ever had the pleasure of eating. Unfortunately couldn't finish the fries and chicken because all the food was just so so nice. Extra Cheesy Mac and Cheese needs to be on the menu as my stomach was in heaven after i ate it - I'd definitely order it with a side of garlic bread. I'm definitely recommending to everyone to come here for a pub meal as its well worth your time and money. I'm gonna be visiting again definitely Well done guys 5/5 Keep it up 👍
