One of the Worst Atmospheres I’ve Experienced in Hull

I honestly don’t know how this place is still running. The Silver Cod has hands-down one of the most unpleasant atmospheres I’ve ever come across in a pub. It wasn’t just rowdy or loud — which you might expect in a busy venue — it was downright hostile.

During my visit, I witnessed staff and regulars creating a completely unwelcoming environment, even going so far as to throw around vile insults like calling members of the public “nonces.” That is not banter, and it’s certainly not something any paying customer should ever have to put up with.

Instead of being a friendly local spot, this pub feels toxic and intimidating. There’s a world of difference between a lively pub and one where the atmosphere is poisoned by bullying, name-calling, and a total lack of respect.

If you value a safe, welcoming place to relax and enjoy a drink, I’d advise you to steer well clear of The Silver Cod. There are far better pubs in Hull that don’t tolerate this sort of disgraceful behavior.

The silver cod is traditional community pub with darts and pool in the bar. A former bass Charrington pub, It is named after the Trawler trophy awarded each year for the trawler with the largest catch. The pub was opened by a skipper off Iceland by radiolink. This community pub has a wide choice of beers and lager, unfortunately no cask conditioned hand pulled real ale. The staff are friendly and there is a large function room and an outside seating area with car park to the rear....

Close to Hull city football ground so great place for a pre match pint. Hull fans made especially welcome. Great prices on beer, excellent choice of pints. Couldn't believe the price of the beer midweek, cheapest in the area. Great atmosphere, especially when matches are on sky sports....
