I had the most amazing meal at The Standard Inn, Gerrans, Portscatho, last week, it was a feast for the senses and I can't wait to go back to try the delicious sounding Perl las blue cheese, wood fired peaches, smoked honey walnuts and chive! Everything on the menu sounded tempting, but I chose the wood roasted hispi cabbage with romesco and toasted hazelnuts, while my companion ordered the day boat wood fired whole plaice with cafe de Paris butter and soft herbs. Meals are served with crispy wood roasted potatoes and three seasonal salads, which are different every day. The food tasted as good as it sounded, and there was just enough room for dessert. The meringue with cornish berries, whipped mascarpone and white chocolate was heavenly, and the dark chocolate brownie with toffee sauce and clotted cream looked just as divine. The restaurant had a wonderful ambiance, with original decor and attention to detail. The outdoor space was cosy and inviting, with a view of the open air kitchen. The staff were very friendly and helpful, they spoke about wine choices and made a fuss of our dogs. Families and dogs are welcome inside and out at The Standard. I highly recommend it for its fabulous and original menu, and also for being such a lovely...
Read moreWe were lucky to visit on the sunny day and enjoyed outside atmosphere a lot. The staff is very friendly and go above beyond to make sure everyone is having great time and that you will want to come back, which we did. Food was delicious and portions were generous however my fish was served in the cold plate which made my dish cold very quickly. My husband enjoyed mussels he ordered and commented as best he ever had. Kids menu wasn’t impressive and pizza we ordered for our toddler didn’t have any taste however we got better luck with Mac and cheese on the second time. Cod mackerel is served on its own so you need to order sides separately. Desserts top mark, especially waffle with strawberries (I would change cream to ice cream though). I also ordered spicy Bloody Mary which wasn’t nice to drink, it was too bitter. We were visiting with our two kids and the great addition to this pub is that there is amazing playground (Gerrand school) 2 minutes walk from the place, not far from car park. If you want to tire out your kids before the meal, I would suggest to go there first. Overall we loved our both visits there and had amazing time, would definitely recommend and we will come back...
Read moreDidn't eat here... but saw the food. Not huge portions, looked quite fancy and smelt very good. Not cheap... but fresh ingredients... although it did look like they were using frozen fries?! Shame if they go to so much trouble about fresh, local ingredients. Fresh fish was seen being delivered on my two visits... so I know that would be a good choice! Out side kitchen too... noticed a lot of flies landing on the uncovered breads though. Could do with being stored inside a container? Drink choice superb. Surroundings are lovely. A tropical feel beer garden with plenty of comfy seating. Inside.. low beams, lots of little areas... very cosy. Toilets spotlessly clean and fresh. The best bit... the staff. One particular member of staff (think he had returned recently to the job/place) was so warm, welcoming and friendly. Due to his service I returned a second time to the Inn with even more family members! Definitely worth a visit for an afternoon of relaxing in the sun with a cold beverage. All in all 5 stars to what use to be a rundown pub. Good luck to the new owners...
