First visit to this area of Roseland Peninsula, impressed with its calming tranquility - but guess July/August may be overrun. Anyway ... pub is rather Tardis-like, being larger on the inside than its footprint would suggest. Welcoming, friendly & efficient staff. Good selection of real ales (St Austell Brewery) plus the usual lagers & ciders. Plenty of choices on their lunchtime menu, plus daily changes, that should suit most diners. Some outside seating along the southwest facing main entrance. Limited parking, understandably being in the centre of this harbouring location, 2 hours max, but further opportunities nearby. Access all areas are limited, with WCs either up a short staircase (for females) with similar, but down stairs (for males). Despite a busy lunchtime service, I didn't notice any table having to wait unduly long, chapeau. Dog-friendly, with which I do not necessarily agree, in a dining area. Cost? A fair price for the quality, size, service & location. Would certainly be worth a return visit should I return to...
Read moreShocking. I had the butchers cut of steak with peppercorn sauce. Either the chef doesn't know how to cook steak or the butcher sold him a doozie of a steak with gristle and fat everywhere. It was a horrible experience with the food. The staff were nice except for one bearded socialist wannabe Stalinist. He basically refused to serve an elderly couple saying, " I tried to serve you but you ignored me so, I'm not going to now! This is where you would have Sat, but now you won't!" With that he turned on his heels and walked off. The elderly couple, the gentleman, tried to explain he couldn't hear him. Unfortunately (ironically) this fell on deaf ears. Portscatho is a magical place but the Plume of Feathers can go up in a Plume Smoke for all I care. It's one saving grace was the very nice lady who showed us to our table. She did her best to be accommodating. If she is running the place with the Stalinist Manager, I suggest she get a new partner, chef...
Read moreWe booked a table online, but arrived half an hour early. It was very busy when we got there, so we were worried that we may have to come back nearer the time. We needn't have worried. The staff were welcoming and friendly and said that our table had just become available, so we were able to sit down early. The food was excellent. The fish and chips were perfect. The wild mushroom tagliatelle was great, too. According to my wife, the pannacotta with honeycomb was delicious. I had locally made gelato, which was lovely, too. Despite being busy, all the staff were relaxed, and nothing felt rushed. The atmosphere was slightly loud at times, but this was simply because lots of people were having a good time. We will definitely come back when we are in...
