Popped in for a bite to eat at lunchtime as someone had recommended this place. We walked in on a Wednesday lunchtime in April, and it was packed with everyone eating. It was a lovely day (probably the only one in April), and we have a dog, so we went out into the beer garden. There were only a few of us out there, but even so, there is a vibe that just makes you feel comfortable and welcome. I ordered 3 small plates, including the dirty fries, (which you must try) and my husband, the fish baguette. Service was with a smile, and the food was presented lovely. Because I ordered the large crevettes and the koren wings, I was given both a bowl for the shells and a finger bowl to clean my fingers after the sticky wings, plus a lemon wet wipe. Every mouthful was a delight. It was the perfect amount for the snack we were looking for, and there was nothing we could fault. The crevettes were indeed large and cooked perfectly, the sticky wings were coated in lots of the beautiful sweet Korean sauce and the dirty fries were really moreish and I don't normally do chips. The fish baguette had deliciously fresh white hake, which was lightly battered and sat upon homemade tartar sauce accompanied by a portion of side salad. Since returning home, we have both commented that lunch at The Three Horseshoes was the best food during our stay in Dorset and we highly recommend that if you are anywhere near this place, it is well worth a little detour. When we hopefully return to Dorset next year, we will definitely be...
Read moreWent for lunch on Wednesday and what a great experience.Considering they have only just reopened the staff are on top form with a warm welcome to put you at ease. Picked a great table in the bar where we could accommodate the dog and ordered from the appealing classic menu. The fish and shellfish soup was beautifully presented with grated cheese and croutons on the side and the depth of flavour large chunks of fish and mussels gave a great start to the meal. The wife had a lovely selection of bread with beautiful garlic butter, tapanade and olive oil. For main course I chose the baked whole plaice which came topped with plump little prawns a butter sauce new potatoes green beans and broccoli all devine. The wife had the fish and chips which also scored top marks. To finish the wife had a beautiful pavlova and i chose the cheese board with a selection of 4 local cheeses a blue, cheddar, sheep's milk and a brie all were excellent. Drinks included some Palmers ale and a bright lively Chardonnay. I can highly recommended the Three Horseshoes and look forward to returning...
Read moreWent in today as had seen pub was in final of pub of the year and so was expecting good things. At 1.30 was told they were full - this was the garden, and the restaurant, so they advised us to come back at 4.30 as they DON'T take bookings. We also told them we had an 87 year old mother, so would need a table in the shade. We return at 4.30 to find they were still busy. We saw 2 tables and asked if we could have one of them but were informed that they were booked, neither the waitress or the male member of staff could say how someone had managed this. My husband then spoke to the manageress/ owner who turned round and said they were reserved for her "family ". I find this inexcusable as we were told you cannot reserve a table, unless of course you are family members of the staff. Would I come back to this establishment, with this sort of attitude and customer service I think not. Would certainly not reccomend to anyone. So if someone would like a good meal out, great customer service and you can book I would 100% reccomend the Bankes Arms Hotel in...
