The chef clearly does not understand the vegetarian diet. There is one veggie option, the tofu Malaysian curry, as well as a mushroom and blue cheese burger which could pass (but blue cheese tends not to be veggie!). I ordered the tofu curry and was given the fish version! I was absolutely horrified. I thought it was battered tofu at first - itās bad enough eating fish as a veggie but imagine if I was allergic to fish! When I sent it back they said they could make me the tofu version, and 5 minutes later the exact same dish came out just with cubed uncooked smoked tofu and fish removed. I know it was the same dish as it originally came out covered in crispy onions which I pushed to the side - the new dish had the crispy onions pushed exactly where I put them. I also ate some of the rice before so there was a dent and some curry on the rice. How the chef can think giving a veggie something which had fish in is acceptable is beyond me. I asked my friend to also try it and she said it was piping hot in places and cold in others, proving it had been microwaved.
If a dish had fish in the sauce - it is not vegetarian!
They offered my this dish for free which was fine because I could not eat it but I felt like the whole meal should be free after that.
There were other issues too. My friend left most of her burger as it was so dense, hard and chewy to eat. It looked like it had been in the freezer for a long time.
It was also so cold, rainy and windy and we were outside. It was busy when we arrived but it started getting quiet and no more guests were arriving. We asked three times to go inside and were told that it was fully booked until the last time we explained we had seen tables available all night and it was nearly 9, so they had nearly stopped serving food, so surely no more guests would arrive. We then were moved onto the table we saw free for over an hour. If I was running a restaurant my guests comfort would be priority. There were other tables inside available and still guests outside in the cold and rain!
Itās a shame as itās a beautiful view and atmosphere, and when I previously visited I loved it, granted I only had hummus and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBefore I start, 10/10 work from the kitchen staff, the food looked amazing and was super duper tasty, compliments to the chef's. The reason for the 1 star was the incredibly poor waiter service from the staff. Our first drinks (Cornish Collins) came relatively quickly, but then a group of six came in and ALL of the staff were more concerned with them than with anyone else in the restaurant; anyone in a party of two were clearly neglected for the larger parties. Our starters were a little slow to come out but that wasn't a problem. Although the server (who we believed to be the manager) did comment about the kitchen giving us too much bread... Wasn't sure how to feel about that! The mains took longer but we tried to play that to my steak (which was great again chefs.) But when we ordered two glasses of prosecco they took over half an hour to come after asking TWICE where they were. And then the desserts. We ordered two brownies and they took over an hour to arrive because, when we asked where it was after 50minutes, we were told they hadn't even been put through the system. We were completely forgotten about by the staff and by the management. I tried flagging staff and managers down multiple times, even staring staff in the eyes and shouting "excuse me" and I was ignored. Great food, expensive and such poor service I'd recommend the Oyster Catcher just...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreArrived in Polzeath, after a long trawl down from the Herefordshire countryside (although lengthy, a spectacular journey none the less) we were blessed, to find a quaint restaurant/bar/cafe right on the Polzeath beach front. Watching the hearty English folk brave the sea, we sat and enjoyed a lovely pint of Atlantic Pale Ale and had a riveting discussion around the geography of a coastal arch to a stump. What could possibly deter us from this calming moment? The Food.
Upon return to this lovely venue, we felt is necessary to indulge in some fine food, along with a fine drop of alcohol in an absolutely fine location. Ordering from a slightly overpriced menu, we had full faith in the quality of the produce outweighing the price concern. Unfortunately, this was certainly not the case.
I could go on and discuss the quality of the burger, informing the general public of the soggy french fries, or discussing the quite bizarre texture of the unseeded brioche burger bun, however I dare not waste my breath.
A truly fantastic venue, driving home all of the picturesque qualities of the Cornish coast line. However, the food was that of a Route 66 diner pitched on the side of the road on the M62 en route to Huddersfield.
Sort the food out and this outlet could be on to a real...
