Hands down the best smash burger I’ve had in Europe. I was staying in Haltwhistle for 2 nights to walk some of Hadrian’s Wall and I thank the burger gods I was there on a Thursday and Friday night to enjoy The Yellow Bird Cafe’s smash burgers. I enjoyed it so much on the Thursday night that I bought another one 30 minutes later (justified it in my head because I knew I was doing a long hike the next day). I was craving their burger during the hike so bought it again for dinner on the Friday night! Trust the reviews, this place is insanely good. Reasonable prices too. Read moreWe stopped at The Yellow Bird Cafe on a quick detour back to our campsite in Troutbeck. We were visiting a Housesteads Roman Fort and wanted some lunch before heading back.
I am really happy we found this place. It doesn’t look much from the outside but inside is fantastic.
The two owners (I’m assuming) are lovely and chatty. Very accommodating and generous. They even gave us a free coffee whilst we waited for our sandwiches.
I had the pastrami sandwich “The Sure Shot” and my friend had the Ceasar sandwich. Both were exceptional.
Reasonably priced as well, the butties were crammed with filling.

Read moreCalled in here because our usual place is having a refit...really pleased we did. I am on a low fat diet and usually struggle with menus full of cheese, mayo and red meat. But today I had amoroccan chicken wrap which was one of the tastiest things ive eaten in months. Still full 6 hours later. My partner had a hot sandwich of garlic ckicken, cheese and bacon which was delicious. The free top up of coffee was a welcome addition too.
