Sadly our visit and experience doesn’t even warrant a one star! Having eaten here for the past few years when visiting the area on our holiday we were extremely disappointed by our experience when visiting tonight. The food was shockingly bad, and seeing as the place was near on empty it’s hard to see why we waited 1 hour 25 minutes for extremely bad food.

After encouraging us to all order at the same time, so that we could all receive our food together this couldn’t be further from what actually happened. In no way did the meals come out at the same time. It was actually ages in between receiving meals and when they finally arrived we were shocked by the poor quality. The Fish and chips were soggy, cold with undercooked thick batter, the garlic bread was so hard we could bang it on the table! The kids fish goujons came out cold but had very clearly been over cooked. The sirloin steak was cold with literally one tablespoon of pepper sauce (that was charged extra for). The vegetable dhal was shockingly bad and resembled a jar of baby’s food (it didn’t taste much better either!). Even the chips were bad! (God knows how you can get frying chips wrong!)

The entire experience from start to finish was awful. We had no menus offered to us on arrival, the pie of the day, curry and a couple of other items were not available, the food was extremely bad, the staff came across disengaged and unhelpful and the manager wasn’t much better.

After this experience I’m not at all surprised that this place has gone from being extremely busy to practically empty.

It was so incredibly disappointing. We certainly won’t be going back and absolutely wouldn’t recommend visiting...

We booked the Shepherd’s Hut at The Travellers Rest and specifically requested (and had confirmed) an early check-in due to my poor health, which makes rest essential after long travel.

On arrival, staff were unhelpful and disorganised. We were left waiting while they “tried to track someone down,” only to be told half an hour later that we “weren’t on the list.” The hut was not even prepared — staff only started walking over to clean it after 5.15pm, meaning it would not have been ready until well after 6pm, despite our confirmed early check-in.

At no point did anyone apologise or show the slightest compassion. Instead, we were met with dismissive attitudes that left us feeling blamed for their mistake. Given the circumstances, we had no choice but to abandon our booking and find alternative accommodation at short notice.

I initially accepted that mistakes can happen, but the complete lack of professionalism, care, or basic courtesy was unacceptable. To make matters worse, I have since emailed the hotel twice to seek a refund and resolution, and both times I have been ignored.

This is not just poor service — it is a failure of basic hospitality. Our experience was ruined, and the silence afterwards only reinforces how little they value their guests. I cannot recommend this place and would strongly urge others to think twice...

Tried to book a meal online and by phone to be told "we don't take bookings just turn up".Fine so we did to then be told we would have to find 2 tables near each other, sit outside (it's freezing) or just wait! I got 2 tables close to each other but was then told I couldn't move the tables together as they "needed the walkway" which was an exit door no one was using as its to cold at present to be going outside.I requested to speak to the manager who wasnt around and was told if you move the tables we didnt see you do it...so i did!.We ordered food only then to be told in peak season starters and mains all come at once as the kitchen can't cope 😳🤷‍♀️...all the food arrived at once only then to be told 2 meals wouldn't be arriving yet as they hadn't enough counter space in the kitchen to prepare the meals on...well here's a thought do starters to start and mains after then you would have room!?!.. just saying!. Food was good but all at once doesn't work as you eat your starters and your mains are getting cold...crazy.The staff half cleared the table and left the other half and never asked us about dessert!.We left no one asked us about our food if everything was OK or any other comment as,we left.Quite frankly a ridiculous set up run by kids only saving grace was the actual food the rest very...

Located close to Mawgan Porth, this friendly pub offers a warm welcome and a good range of local beers. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, making it the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring the beautiful Cornish countryside. I decided to try the steak and ale pie, intrigued by its promise of wholesome comfort food. The pie did not disappoint—it was hearty and flavorful, with tender chunks of meat enveloped in a rich gravy. The triple cooked chips were a standout, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, they were some of the best I've ever tasted. However, my dining experience was marred slightly by the side of fresh vegetables. While peas and carrots are a classic pairing, the combination felt uninspired, especially when served alongside such a delicious pie. My son jokingly referred to it as "prison food," and although I found his assessment a bit harsh, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of disappointment. Nevertheless, the quality of the main dish and the exceptional chips more than made up for any shortcomings. The friendly service and cozy atmosphere further added to the overall enjoyment of the meal. Overall, I would recommend this pub for its tasty food and welcoming ambiance, just be prepared for the occasional misstep in the side dish department.

Luxury Hut acomodation across the road behind pub's car park . Amazing place ,we stayed there for 3 nights the hut ,the view of the ocean and surrounding was really nice. Martin ,the owner very kind and willing to help any time. He was giving us fire wood for fire pit and charcoal for barbecue. Also the place has a pond with two ducks , chickens . They also have an retro mini trailer near the huts with stone baked pizza and diferent drinks. Near-by, Magawan port and other beautiful beaches suitable for surfing and beach sports. We will come back!

A very warm welcome and a decent range of beers. We opted for the Tomahawk steak sharing platter for 2. It was a sight to behold, easily enough for 3/4 people. The meat was tender and delicious and cooked just as we like it. The Staff were very friendly as were the locals one of whom said he had the Tomahawk for his birthday and had failed to finish. We were also defeated. We had a lovely evening. Highly recommend the Traveller’s Rest for its food, service and ambience.
