Art at the beach — Attraction in Mawgan-in-Pydar

We have seen Jeanni painting on Mawgan Porth beach for many years so she was an obvious choice when we decided we wanted a commission painting to be created. We met with Jeanni to discuss the piece on the beach today. We expected that we'd chat for a few minutes before she got on with the rest of her day. Before we knew it, over two hours had passed! Whilst we talked lots about the commission and the specific details of that, she spent time talking us through art techniques, particularly to do with perspective so that we could better understand how she would create our painting. Her knowledge of how art is created and felt is wonderful. She explores the science behind art and considers how things like the curve of the earth is present in a painting. During our recent coastal getaway, we had the absolute pleasure of joining one of Jeanni’s art lessons on the beach, and it turned out to be the highlight of our trip. With two young kids (ages 6 and 8), we weren’t sure how long their attention would hold, but from the moment Jeanni began, they were completely captivated. For two full hours, they sat still, engaged, and deeply immersed in the joy of creating.

Jeanni has an incredible gift, not just in art, but in teaching. She is personable, warm, and instantly connected with all of us. Her calm and encouraging approach made it easy for even the most hesitant of us (me) to feel confident picking up a brush. Through simple guidance and presence, she opened up a whole world of creativity we didn’t know we had, even the kids! Just incredible.

We were amazed at what we created with her guidance. These paintings are more than just souvenirs, they’re snapshots of a special family moment we’ll always treasure. I’ve always valued experiences over things, and this was one of those moments that becomes a core memory.

I have completed Jeanni's art course on sketching, painting and perspective. I did two sessions over zoom and the painting lesson on the beach at Mawgan Porth with Jeanni.

I really thought that I could not a) draw or b)paint, but now after the course I have sold two paintings through Jeanni's gallery and so I must be able to call myself a professional artist :-)

Jeanni is really approachable and her unqiue way of teaching helps you to understand what's been holding you back and how to correct your mistakes. She gives you the confidence to go with your gut, put pencil/paint to paper and to have fun with art, not judging yourself. A painting lesson on the beach with my daughter (age 12) was huge fun and we both produced paintings way beyond what we imagined we were capable of.

Jeanni also has a stock of art supplies and high quality acrylic paints in her gallery as well as paintings by herself and her students, so if you're inspired by the amazing landscapes and sunsets of North Cornwall you can grab some goodies and have fun creating at your leisure.
