Travellers Rest — Restaurant in England

We had looked forward to eating here and phoned and booked a table to avoid disappointment. On arrival we were welcomed and shown our table, ordered our food, starting with a soup 'Tomato'. Soup was delicious but luke warm even cold in places. We then waited 30minutes for our meal which when it did arrive was cold the yourkshires were burnt black. On speaking to a staff member i was told the kitchen had servef a family table before serving our main meal, these people arrived twenty minutes after we did, offers of replacement food were given but by then our enjoyment of being there had quickly changed to a feeling of being disrespected and fobbed off. I can only assume that our not being regulars as most there seemed to be is the reason our experiance of this venue wasn't anything like we had read in reviews. Our waitress apolygised profusly and deducted an amount off our Bill, which didn't change our experiance. Shame really as we were looking forward to enjoying some of their midweek offerings we read on the walls of the restaurant. On the whole the food was as bad as the service we...

Sadly a very disappointing Xmas party lunch of 8. Meat/fish arrived followed by 1 medium dish of veg at top of table which fed 4. After further wait a small dish arrived served 2 but turnip missing. Asked for more and at the same time a lady in group found long hair in her potato. She was asked did she want a fresh meal. OMG of course she did.. !!! No discount given. In confusion she was given the dish of veg and waited ages for rest of meal so again I asked for some veg and after a very long wait we recieved turnip. I gave up and just ate what I had. Meals where ate by then also. I had fish with tomato sauce so brussels, cabbage and over cooked turnip not the ideal veg to serve with it anyhow. Tiny spoon of potato on plate. Depressing back ground music. Left hungry and not worth £9.95 for my meal. Some table decor would be nice as a Xmas meal. £5.20 for a single gin n lemonade...

Downgrading from 4 star to 1 star. New management and revisited Sunday 18 Nov 2018. Food poor for main course, menu stated "ask wait staff for available desserts" we asked and waited 20 minutes while wait staff served BUT also gossiped behind bar before leaving having given up hope of service. No coke as ordered but we had meals delivered to table BEFORE we were told this so made do with water and squash.... Left without dessert eventually and attempted to make a complaint to staff but was simply ignored.

Used to go here once every week or so for family meals. Will not be going back...
