Table table, what a wonderous place. As the name implies the tables were probably the most positive part of my experience.
STARTER: My colleagues and I wanted to experience the "christmas tree garlic bread" we were devastated with the appearance as it was a square and and uneven triangle on top.
MAIN: We wanted to have the lovely experience of a variety of main course options from the child's menu, £7.99 for three courses sounded like an amazing deal, but as expected, you pay for what you get. The portions were not the largest and not up to the quality advertised on the menu. The rudolph burger: a splodge of ketchup atop the bun, two sprigs of rosemary stabbed into the side of the dry bun. The burger patty itself was probably the high of the ensemble as the lettuice was missing from inside the burger, which was promised on the menu. The chips were fine as were the roasts ( minus the lack of Yorkshire puddings) and the 'Festive Margherita Pizza' was made up of four slices of cold cheese pizza stuck together, and two sticks of cucumber thrown on top of it. As it was supposed to resemble a Christmas tree we were all very displeased. The supposed stalk (cucumber) was definitely not in the right place. All of the meals were luke warm at best and seemed to have been microwaved. However the adult portions were warm and of a more appropriate size.
DRINKS: At the end of the day, drinks are drinks, but they could've been delivered faster, we were left waiting for them about 40 minutes and for the food for 45 minutes although they did let us know there may be a delay on food.
THE STAFF: We couldn’t fault the polite and friendly staff! Very welcoming and was probably one of the positives of ‘table table’.
VENUE: The inside of 'table table' was readily decorated for the festive season and had fairylights hung in most of the rooms, we didn't see much of the staff and there were no tables placed uncomfortably close to toilets. The toilets themselves were adequate and decorated more elegantly than the rest of the place. The doors jammed easily and toilets were blocked. The taps worked and on of the hand dryers were out of order. Half of the soap dispensers had soap in them, the others were empty. Especially considering its quiet, everything should be easy to keep track of.
DESERTS: The cream had melted off of the brownies and the santa hat, no where to be seen. The food itself was adequate. The adults Brownies had much more effort in presentation, and as the staff said, who had the good idea to put cream in a hot Brownie, expecting it to stay in shape. Luckily the brownies were warm and quite tasty. The pictures on the menu are definitely false advertisement.
SUMMARY: Overall, our review is not to demean 'table table' but is to serve as constructive criticism so they may improve their presentation of food and their...
Read moreThis review is based on a two day stay at the adjacent Premier Inn and eating here for breakfast & dinner twice. We're a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children. One adult pescatarian).
Breakfast - the food is your typical Premier Inn ultimate breakfast. The food is enjoyable enough but quality of the hot food varied quite a bit (sometimes cooks fine and other times overcooked). Good choice of drinks and the mixed berries were enjoyable if sometimes still frozen.
Dinner #1 - this was our first meal upon arrival. Table was booked for 18:30 and upon arrival were told the children's menu had no pasta, tomato sauce, baked beans or sausages (so half the menu). The burger and popcorn chicken we ordered were eaten well enough. I chose to eat the double-spaced burger with bacon which was tasty but the bun was dry and broke apart. My wife's vegetarian Sloppy Joe burger was dry with the top half of the bun dry while the bottom half was dry and solid; the salad was brown and dressing despite asking for none, and she had normal fries despite ordering tiger fries (they initially charged for this but took it off once I pointed this out). Overall disappointing number of mistakes and limited food for children.
Dinner #2 - unable to book a table elsewhere we came back hoping yesterday was just a bad day; thankfully the only kids menu item unavailable was the cod bites. My daughter ordered the pasta and tomato sauce which she ate but said the sauce "didn't taste of much". They were accomodating in changing the sausages in my son's bangers and mash to chicken meatballs but they had a dry, hard exterior which he didn't eat as "they didn't taste of chicken" (I tried and they're incredibly bland). My paprika chicken was nice but the ribs somehow only warm yet burned at the edges. My wife's meal was better today (sweet potato and feta lasagne) at least. Despite asking if I wanted a full or half pint of pepsi, they completely missed it from the order so we never received it.
In all experiences we found service took a very long time as well. Nearly 90 minutes for a single course.
I'm sure some people have had a nice experience but after having two meals here I'd be happy never to eat here again. The only reason for the second star is them accomodating my son's odd meal request and 2 of the 8 meals...
Read moreStayed here for business just 1 night. Frequently stay at Premier Inns and have a meal allowance.
On arrival, I checked in and enquired if I needed to book a table. Was told that no, as all overnight guests will be accommodated.
Headed to the pub at 6.15pm. Greeter asked if I had booked so told her that check in informed me I didn't need to, and I had an evening meal allowance. This was not well received. Was shown to a table (30) in the middle of a doorway, ironically near the cleaning station. Table was sticky and did not feel clean. Asked the waitress to clean it whilst I was at the bar ordering my food, which again was not well received...I really felt unwelcome, unappreciated and 2nd class, as a business customer with a food allowance.
Had a friendly chat with the barman who processed my order very efficiently and did make me feel welcome.
Came back and table was still sticky. Several people squeezed past my table in the doorway, bumping it and almost spilling my drink. When the waitress came with my starter I asked to be moved as there were 2 empty 2 seater tables in the room from the doorway my table was blocking. To which the reply was "it would mess up our systems!". When I said people were squeezing through knocking the table, she pulled over a chair from a nearby table to block the doorway completely. I asked the waitress to touch the table to see if it was clean. The reply was..." it is clean but the varnish is coming off!". At this point I gave up.
Decided to eat my food as quickly as possible and retreat back to my room. Food was OK but not what you would expect for what you pay. I have had much better at other Premier Inns pubs. Ordered nachos for starters (very small) and chicken tikka with side salad and naan bread. Came without the naan bread. Side salad was a bit pathetic and in a ramekin. Asked the waitress for the naan and some mayonnaise. After waiting 4 to 5 minutes watching my food go cold, I went the the friendly barman, who even though was busy, went and got them from the kitchen immediately. Well done to him.
Overall, felt very unwelcome and disappointed, and I am largely discouraged from staying at this Premier Inn in the future, mostly due to my dining experience. And unable to recommend the pub as a place for a good meal with friendly...
