We visited today after spending the morning at the country park, Irene the host greeted us pleasantly at the door and showed us to our seats in the children’s area as I had my three children with me.
We decided we would order two luxury hot chocolates to warm us up whilst we decided what food to have and wait for the carvery to open.
We approached the bar to place our order and was finally served by the lady at the bar with blonde hair on the top half and glasses on I believe her name may have been Chloe?
She was doing something on the till for a few minutes and when she finally looked up to serve us was the most rude, stern and impolite member of bar staff I have met. She served us last time we were over in Hull and was greeted with the same nonchalant attitude.
I said hello I would like to order to luxury hot chocolates please, without a word she went off to go make these hot chocolates, which must have taken about 10 minutes to make, then plonked them down on the bar, I said thank you, still not a smile or any pleasantry muttered.
I asked if we were able to order food from the menu before the carvery opened at 12 or if we had to wait, she told me they hardly had any food after the bank holiday weekend so don’t think you will be able to have anything. I was quite shocked by this and went to sit down.
I was going to drink up and leave when Irene approached us to ask if everything was alright and I told her about the rude member of staff behind the bar, she did not seem at all surprised by our unhappiness with her, I believe she is rude like this regularly, I had already experienced it twice myself.
I asked Irene about the food situation and she said she would go check for me with the chef. She returned and said they had almost everything in on the menu, so was unsure why I had been told that. Myself and my elder daughter were both wanting a carvery anyway and I could see they were setting that up.
I queued back up again and there was myself and gentleman in the queue, when the rude member of staff shouted “next” I gestured for him to go first even though it was me and I would wait for the other member of staff, to this Chloe tutted and rolled her eyes. I was then served by a very pleasant Katie who greeted me with a hello and a smile and took my order in a friendly pleasant manner. What a stark difference between the two!
The food came out for my two younger children and me and my eldest enjoyed the carvery, which was lovely. I then went up to order the children’s complimentary ice creams, again I was dreading getting served by Chloe, Irene approached me and said she would get them for me, she was lovely and put sprinkles on for the kids too.
She came over again at the end to check our meals and ice creams were all ok and to apologise about our earlier encounter with the rude member of staff. I said to her it had all been lovely apart from that first encounter, I nearly walked out and didn’t order as she made me feel that much of an inconvenience.
The first time I visited I presumed she was having an off day as we all do, but this time she was exactly the same. Also after looking through the reviews I don’t feel I’m the first person this has happened too.
Having worked in sales and front of house I do not think she suits a front of house position and being the face representing your company when she is so clearly unhappy to serve customers. How many others has she scared off with her awful attitude? I feel she would be better suited in the kitchens, so to not have to deal with customers if they are that much of an inconvenience, either that or she is in need of some...
Read moreCame in for a family carvery slight off taste to the mash and roasties but overall nice food. The staff however need an update. Whist at the bar ordering food and drink we had a very unprofessional and VERY rude bar man named Reece who went out of his way to embarrass my mum asking her for ID at 48 years old to which my mum answered "Ooo do I look that young" for him to reply "ERR No I was talking to her" and points to me, I was at the other side of the bar so very obviously wasn't referring to me. Then when asking for 4 kids nugget meals with chips he ROLLS HIS EYES and replies "YEAH what sides we have 2" At this point we were aware he was a bit of a snob but ignored it. Whilst waiting for drinks I go to use the water dispenser on the bar for the kids drinks, the dispenser was completely empty so asked for it to be filled and stood back with my mum to help with other drinks. Another bartender then filled it so I walked over to use it and all of a sudden there's a metre sized puddle on the floor and a bar man telling me not to step there as its wet so I decide to wait at my table with my family. 10 minutes later the same rude bar man comes over to my table and proceeds to accuse me of opening the tap when It wasn't touched at all as it was empty, he said "Did you open the water dispenser because there's water EVERYWHERE and my colleague has just slipped and hit his head so in future can you not open it! " in the most arrogant tone to which I confirmed I didn't touch the tap. He then says the exact same thing about his colleague hitting his head, baring in mind there's 4 kids at my table all shocked and confused. I told him I saw the water 10 minutes ago and no wet floor sign was put there since and if his collegue had opened his eyes he would of seen a Large patch of water. He decides to tell my table he can tell us to leave if he wants to and walks away leaving my family completely baffled at what just happened. It was our first time coming to wingfield farm after high expectations and it completely ruined the meal. The manager came over and Co forms she would have a word but if I were you I'd stay clear as the staff need some lessons in...
Read moreWe're new to the area and with a little one I've been looking for things to do together. This place was recommended as "family friendly", but there was absolutely nothing friendly about this place, family or otherwise.
Upon arrival we were faced with a lady who looked at us as though our mere presence was the greatest inconvenience. She greeted us with "have you got a booking?" no hello or how are you, not a hint of a smile. She directed us to the back of the venue to another equally displeased member of staff who directed us to our table with a point of a finger.
I had added a highchair to our booking (the booking form actually prompted us to do this, it wasn't just a special note I added). I could see that a chair had been removed from the table to make space but no highchair was there. I had my hands full with baby and bags so it was a struggle to get a highchair myself and no staff member offered to assist but we managed.
Off to the bar we went to order our food, already feeling pretty displeased and unwelcome but the little one needed to eat. While standing at the bar again with my hands full (couldn't leave the baby and bags at the table alone) a staff member walked right past us, without even making eye contact let alone a smile or greeting. She made her way a few metres further down the bar and then called us over with a "Hi?" and watched while I gathered up our belongings and made my way down.
She simply looked at me expectantly, again no smile, didn't ask how we were or how she could help. I greeted her and asked for our first meal. As acknowledgment and still void of smile asked for my table number.
It was then I decided we weren't welcome, I informed her we weren't going to stay and not to worry about our order. This was the first and only time I got a smile from a staff member as I walked out to face a car ride home with a starving toddler.
Staff are bordering on unfriendly, the menu was not very impressive but I can't submit a review on food as we didn't stay to try it. I checked out the carvery on our way through, it looked dry and boring but can't submit a honest review on that.
Just avoid...
