Update -July 2024: I did the mistake to come back 3 times after my edit....nothing changed, their kitchen had backlog of about 45 min, they said, and don't accept new orders. This exactly was the excuse all 3 times. And by looking around their garden most tables they were eating, with some customers clearly just had their food. All this happening around 8pm, on a lovely warm summer Monday evening....honestly it's such a shameful behavior towards customers. Why can't managers take action? Original review, April 2024: The service was really good and the ladies took a good care of us however the quality wasn't something too special. Lovely ribeye steak and nice cocktails too!

Bonus the decor and the real fire places :)

Edit, May 2024: we came last Friday after a long almost 2 hour walk by the river. It was 10min before the kitchen was due to close but they refused to take a food order as they had a half an hour back log of food orders. Bummer but I get this. So we decided to just have a drink and then just go to find a take out. It was a pint of cider and a soda, £8.80 for those (a bit pricey but anyway). My partner handed his phone to the guy in the till who's holding it and says to me that for card payment to tap on the top of the machine. I did so and at the same time I hear a "no", but couldn't understand why. Mind you I'm exhausted from the walk and in incredible physical pain . He then immediately hands over the phone to my partner and then said " sorry, SHE paid and I can't issue you the (loyalty) points (in the app). I'm stunned and so is my partner. I asked "can you just cancel this payment (or refund on this case) and do this again?", to which he replied no. My partner pointed out that he was holding to his phone BEFORE I was encouraged by him to pay.. At this point I'm just hungry, in pain, thirsty and appalled from the lack of customer service 😑. I admit I said to my own language to basically get the f@$%^ out of there as I was furious.

Never going back....

Very disappointing We visited last year & enjoyed it so much we took our granddaughters there today.

The outside area looked quite rough, with birds mess on the tables. We chose a cleanish one & ordered some chips & Halloumi fries. The triple cooked chips were obviously undercooked & very hard inside, although my granddaughter really enjoyed her pasta. Then we realised the drink for her meal hadn't been given to us & we had to go to the bar to request it Dessert was sticky toffee pudding (very much enjoyed by one of the girls) & trio of ice-cream. Sadly there was no chocolate ice cream but my granddaughter enjoyed her honeycomb, vanilla & blackcurrant (sorbet) trio. I however had to send mine back as it was served in a really dirty bowl, with old food stuck all around the inside rim. As I handed it to the waitress I was met with a somewhat blank look & 'Oh! Do you want another one?" No apologies at all. I said that I wanted a fresh one as I couldn't eat from the dirty dish. By the time the others had finished their desserts, I was still waiting (no dessert in sight). I ended up walking around to find another waitress, who said she'd get my dessert straight away. She was quick getting it, but again no apology for the dirty dish or the wait. Once I started eating I realised the 'apple sorbet' I'd been so looking forward to, was in fact raspberry.

Safe to say we won't be...

Location: really good after a boat trip on the opposite side of the channel, or a long walk from Cheshunt to Broxbourne. Venue: huge garden next to quiet canal and forest; with lots of tables, ours was #91 right next to the forest. Inside a really nice decorated pub/restaurant with lots of space. Ordering: tad confusing and manual. When you enter at front door, grab a menu from the left of the bar, find a table in garden or inside, figure out what you want, back to bar to order and pay, take drinks with you, take some cutleries yourself, they'll bring the food your ordered to you. I guess this is "normal" in a pub, but still strange consider the establishment looks like a really nice restaurant. Food: pretty good. We both got "Beef bourguignon" (very similar to Greek Stifado, or Hungary beef stew). This was tasty, but the meat portion was huge. Would been great if it was: smaller pieces of meat with more dripping that soaks it, and maybe a bit less of meat. We also got a side of "baby potatoes", but they were giant pieces of potatoes, the normal size, not even cut up to smaller pieces. Very tasty though with spices and butter. Verdict: good experience, will be back to try the burgers, we saw them after we ordered.

Came here for my Birthday and I was so disappointed, lovely waitress and the lovely views but it's a no from me. All of our food came out cold (we wasn't the only ones as I heard others complaining) everything was bland and just point blank not nice my hollandaisesauce didnt taste of anything, the pizzas are literally just tomato puree and cheese. I paid for our food through the app and was later told they had run out of pizza bases (stupid of me to think they made them fresh) so my partner ordered something else instead which was 5 pound cheaper than the pizza I paid for but we got offered complimentary £1.50 chips! I felt robbed Our plates didn't get taken away for atleast 2 hours I actually had to move all of out plates after an hour to another table and they still didn't get taken away. I had a very unpleasant time and I'm annoyed I gave them a second chance because I visited this place several years ago and it was shambles then but thought after many years it would of improved.

I’ve visited this pub numerous times so far this year and always have a very positive experience. The decor is lovely and if you have time to take a look at some of the framed pictures on the wall, you will see some interesting historical features including the old Broxbourne mill and canal related pictures. Beautiful venue location, spacious outdoor garden, quaint atmosphere, clean bathrooms and totally dog friendly (they offer a water bowl and there are charitable treats you can buy at the bar) Despite some of the other reviews, I have personally never once had a bad meal here. The menu has changed a little since Feb/March and occasionally they have a different dish as a weekly special. We booked a birthday lunch here and bought our own cake, the kitchen arranged the cake on a plate along with lit candles (that we had brought ourselves) - the staff were very generous to help us with the birthday surprise.
