Plenty of parking and even an overflow area at the left of the entrance from Mill Lane. Clear directions from the car park to the restaurant around the planted flower beds. Views of a large outdoor seating area with parasols and gazebo coverings set to the wooded side of the main building. The bar area occupies the spot directly inside the entrance door with the dining areas to either side and upstairs. Our reserved table was set out for 6 with all the glasses and cutlery ready. After a warm welcome, our drinks orders were taken by Mike, who attended us throughout our stay. Waiting for the starters gave us time to enjoy the decor and assorted curios placed in the alcoves and pictures adorning the walls. A large open fireplace dominated our 4 table area at the back of the bar on the ground floor. The baked mushrooms and Camenbert bites were both a good advertiser for the quality and care of the kitchen staff towards taste and presentation. 3 different mains were served and in their own ways satisfied all of us. The fish finger sandwich consisted of 2 sizeable cod chucks in a halved ciabatta roll. The 2 gammon steaks both seemed to be an inch thick with a pair of proper runny friends egg toppings. The 3 BBQ hunters chickens arrived as a breast sliced lengthwise and folded back to accept more of the cheese and bacon topping. These dishes both had triple dipped chips in a quirky tube. All meals were cleared fully, except for the hard crusted ciabatta roll. (a soft bap would have been a better marriage) 6 different deserts all got a thumbs up, with the Black Forest Flower Pot, winning the design award. The most pleasant meal and setting we have enjoyed in a long time. Thanks to everyone for your efforts, the chefs, the bar staff, front of house and Mike. Brilliant.

The welcome was lovely, the seating area was quiet (which I'd requested before) and Matt our server was efficient, charming and helpful. The food was absolutely lovely as always - I've been here a few times with the in-laws. We had 3 courses and enjoyed all of them. I found the peppercorn sauce with the steak to be quite bitter but perhaps it was just my taste. Matt did a check in with us after a few mins and I mentioned to him and he was really nice about it. He offered to get me a different sauce which I have to say was really nice and actually made the rest of my meal perfect! I appreciate that a tip is optional and it wasn't expected by Matt which is good because I get really grumpy at places nowadays that have just jumped on the American bandwagon and add a 'service' charge on automatically. We did choose to tip because he definitely deserved it having gone above and beyond with recommendations, changing the sauce and also helping me figure out how on earth to use the app. The chocolate orange desert was superb and something that could have appeared on Masterchef, so pretty and tasty!

After visiting the beautiful Titchfield Abbey we were ready for lunch. This was just a one minute drive down the road. Plenty of parking for customers (even some spots under the trees in the shade). First things first: Food was pretty average and I'd give three stars. But location and atmosphere are great and relaxing. That deserves an extra star. It's really an old mill right at a small river. The pub is beautiful inside as well and has a charming outside area to have lunch and dinner. Since it was a hot and sunny day we took a table outside. Our Bulldog was welcome as well. Ordered fried shrimp, shrimp & scallops and Fish'n'Chips. Since I was driving I had a coke instead of a beer. Fried shrimps were ok. Can't (almost) go wrong with fried food. The cooked shrimp and scallops were quite very good, nice herbal sauce. Fish'n'Chips were fine. Hot and crispy. Staff was friendly. Ordering by app was easy and prices fair. Food was all fine. But just nothing really different or special. Apart from the scallops/shrimp maybe. But still: An enjoyable lunch in a great setting.

Review: An Exceptional Dining Experience

From the moment we walked in, it was clear this restaurant was a cut above the rest. The atmosphere struck a perfect balance between warmth and sophistication, making it an inviting space for a memorable meal.

Our evening was elevated by the impeccable service from Matt, whose professionalism and attentiveness were second to none. He anticipated our needs before we even voiced them, ensuring our dining experience was seamless and genuinely enjoyable. His knowledge of the menu and recommendations were spot-on, enhancing our appreciation for every dish.

Speaking of the food—absolute perfection. Chef Connor’s culinary expertise was on full display, with each dish crafted to an exceptional standard. The flavors were bold yet refined, the presentation stunning, and the ingredients clearly of the highest quality. Every bite was a testament to his skill and passion for delivering outstanding cuisine.

From start to finish, this was an experience worth savoring. If you’re looking for a restaurant that excels in both service and food, this is it. A true five-star experience—highly...
