So pleased to see this pop up restaurant using the coffee shop on the evenings. We’ve used the shop many times before and this place keeps the same friendly atmosphere. We decided to sit in and eat, rather than get a takeaway, but there were plenty of others popping in to collect orders (which you can preorder by phoning them too, so even faster as you’re driving back from the day’s adventures)! Each table had a sombrero on it for daft selfies for Instagram, which is always good for a smile.
The menu was great, the hardest part was choosing what to have! We opted for a starter of nachos with the welsh pulled beef. The beef was amazing!!! The portion size was huge and more than enough for us two as a starter. We both had the chicken burritos (I added the homemade habanero chilli sauce - which was delicious!!). Again the portion sizes were large but this wasn’t at the expense of quality. The burritos were so tasty and filling!
To top it off, we shared a portion of churros with chocolate dipping sauce. These were clearly freshly made and piping hot! Again, really tasty.
There is a really good selection of beers (both Mexican (corona and desperados) and local welsh beers, ciders and wine. All great to wash the food down with.
Price wise this place is a bargain! The quality and quantity of the food meant we expected it to be more expensive.
All the staff were really friendly and chatty. The restaurant building itself was very clean and tidy and a really comfortable environment. You can also smell the food being BBQ’d outside, which made our mouths water as we were walking down the high street.
Only currently open Thursday to Saturday so don’t put it off incase you’re a day late (as we discovered on the Sunday!) but this place is a real gem. I hope to see it go from strength...
Read moreWe were staying over at the Queen’s Hotel whilst visiting for a day at the Antur Stiniog bike park. Having arrived late on Friday evening, we started a search for somewhere to eat, as the hotel’s restaurant was closed for refurbishment.
On first impressions, there were no really obvious signs outside that the Burrito Blasus was a restaurant; one chap was sat at a window seat busily working away on his laptop, and the building contained elements of a clothes shop for the bike park and some local museum style history on the tables and walls - more of a coffee shop vibe, I thought. So we walked on by in search of an actual restaurant to eat at. Having struck-out, we headed back down the road and stuck our head in the door of Burrito Blasus and asked if they were still doing food, which they were. To our surprise, once inside, it was an actual Mexican restaurant menu on offer.
Once seated, we decided on what everybody wanted to eat and placed the order. We didn’t have to wait long and our food was served in street-food style containers. It all looked great; from a basic order of nachos with cheese to the full-on nachos with all the toppings, the various beef and chicken burritos and extra portions of jalapeños etc, everything tasted great.
The quality of the food really can’t be overstated. But when you see the prices, it gets even better. To be completely honest, this restaurant stands out in an otherwise empty town. If I were served this quality of food in any restaurant in any city in the UK, I’d be very happy. So to find it in such a remote place as Blaenau Ffestiniog was a blessing. I’d definitely recommend this to anybody riding at the bike park or visiting zip world, as it’s only 5 minutes along the road, but even if you were staying farther away, I’d still...
Read moreSo we arrived in Blaenau Ffestiniog at around 8:30pm on a Friday night and immediately went on the hunt for somewhere to get dinner.
We were told about a place called The Stables that was 20 min drive away but stopped taking orders at 9pm so that was no good.
We walked past Burrito Blasus thinking it was a posh wine bar / cyber cafe up the road and asked in a few pubs if they were serving food, none of them were. So heading back down ready to succumb to a fish n chips dinner when we popped our heads into Burrito Blasus for a quick look.
Well Holy smeg this place was amazing, the service was lovely and food, the food was incredible! Honestly this place is far to good for a place like Blaenau Ffestiniog. This restaurant wouldn't be out of place in a line up of top notch banging places to eat in any city across the UK. What's even better is it was amazing gourmet food but not silly prices.
If you're staying anywhere with in 45mins of Burrito Blasus then it's 100% worth...
