Jamdani — Restaurant in Gateshead

Had a really poor experience here on New Year's Day evening with a takeaway order. Rang and ordered the food and was told to pick up 45 minutes later. Arrived at Jamdani and after 20 minutes of waiting, an older member of staff took our payment and went off into the kitchen. A younger guy came back with our food and asked for payment. When I explained we had paid already, he refused to accept this and would not check with the older guy to see if payment had been received. His attitude was accusational and clearly thought I was trying to pull a fast one. I was met with a stand-off at his lack of willing to check whether I had paid already, so I was forced to check with my bank statement to show him proof. It turned out that the older guy had taken payment for another order from me. There was no hint of an apology. The mood was very much one of maximising money-intake at the expense of anything resembling customer service. I took my order home without checking it first(my fault, among the chaos), to find rice missing. I've given this place the benefit of the doubt three times but having just got my order wrong again this will definitely be the last time.

I'd like to state that the food is pretty good but it varies each time we've ordered.

We walked in and said hello as the take away guy was on the phone, this guy said we'd have to wait for him to finish, which we did and then rudely two "regular locals" walked in, who he clearly knew, and served them first. In the meantime our food was sat on the side waiting and he didn't seem to care.

Sadly when we got the take away home the order was incorrect, as he hadn't bothered to read it back to us over the phone or during collection.

Exceptional food and service . Discovered by chance when staying locally. Very nice little restaurant. Staff are welcoming, helpful and attentive. Very impressive menu with some interesting traditional dishes amongst the old favourites. I had garlic mushroom starter,which was Devine. The calamari was also very good. We both had a tahli, which came with a lovely fresh naan and rice. I hate wasting food but there was no way I could eat it all. Plenty of meat in all the dishes, cooked nice and tender.
