I met a friend here after a recommendation from someone else and was sorely disappointed. On arrival there were 2-3 empty tables all sitting with dirty dishes. I asked if I was ok to sit at one and was told to go ahead. 15-20 minutes later I asked a member of staff if she was able to clear the table after she’d served someone else. She told me a member of staff had had to go home and they were short staffed so I’d have to wait. I said I didn’t mind clearing it somewhere and was told there wasn’t anywhere. She then walked passed on her return to the kitchen with empty hands and still didn’t move the dishes. I’m the end I piled them up on the floor by the counter as we were ordering food. The girl behind the counter was lively and very helpful. I ordered the bacon salad, when it arrived I was surprised that it was just leaves with no other salad veggies. It was tasty but felt it was missing something. We then ordered cakes and both had to leave them as the raspberry blondie was a cake, not a blondie and extremely dense and very dry. The cookie bar was also very dense and quite greasy. You needed a drink between mouthfuls as it was very claggy. All in all a disappointing visit and will be unlikely to be rushing back.

The Orangery is in the local village where I live. The place itself is lovely and every time I’ve been the service and food has been amazing. For my wedding in Aug 2023 I had the Orangery make my cake. I provided a photo of what I was after (3 tier semi naked cake) and was responded to promptly with a price which was very competitive. On my wedding day, when I saw the cake I was taken back with how big it was, it was a real statement piece. The flavours were also fabulous (vanilla, chocolate, lemon and poppyseed). I would without hesitation recommend The Oranery for any celebration cakes. They will be my ā€˜go to’ from now on 10/10

I collected a giant cookie in time for the naughty elves arriving back at my grandchildren home. I think they may have redeemed themselves by bring the cookie with them. As usual the Orangery staff have excelled themselves.

So, I wouldn’t usually leave a review but I was so dissatisfied this morning that I feel like it’s necessary. Myself and my partner went for breakfast, scenery 5*, beautiful little place inside of Whickham gardens. Large latte, just an average cup of coffee. The food is where it all goes wrong. We ordered a full English, a veggie breakfast and eggy bread with cinnamon sugar. When the food came out it was not looking good but you know, looks can be deceiving! They were not, the food was very greasy, I’m convinced my veggie sausages were cooked in the same pan as the normal sausages so I couldn’t eat them due to the taste and grease, everything kind of tasted like a burnt greasy oven tray. Hash browns were barely warm and burnt and again had that flavour and my egg has lots of uncooked white on the top. The full English, the bacon was very fatty, the sausages were so badly burnt that it was difficult to pierce with the fork or chop with the knife, hash browns burnt and not tasting nice at all. Weirdly the toast was dry and we weren’t provided with any butter to eat it. The eggy bread also couldn’t be eaten due to being very soggy and greasy. We were so hungry when we left that we went and got a Greggs. We paid Ā£30 for our food and 2 coffees so I’d say it wasn’t unreasonable to expect the food to be edible. I would sit here and drink a coffee and chat but unfortunately the food was so bad that I wouldn’t...

Enjoyed The Orangery Cafe Afternoon Tea with my wife today to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. The food, service and atmosphere were all 5 star making it a very special occasion. There was a good selection of finger sandwiches with a variety of tasty savoury fillings, pork pie and goats cheese tart on the bottom tier. The middle tier was almost overflowing with a delightful selection of cakes and brownies. Cheese and fruit scones on the top tier completed the presentation, the latter being served with clotted cream and strawberry jam - delicious ! I had a great coffee and my wife had a pot of tea, both of which were included. We ate until full and there was still plenty to take home for supper in a box which the staff were more than happy to sort out for us even though the Cafe was busy both indoors and outdoors around the pond. We sat indoors overlooking the gardens and it was so relaxing ! We fully recommend The Orangery Cafe and are looking forward to...
