The Stone Trough — Restaurant in Gateshead

Very disappointing experience. Heard a lot about the place through colleagues. Rang up to see if a table was available, was told yes just walk in.

Place was dead, New Year’s Day, ok no problem.

Sat down, went to the bar to order, had to wait untill the waitresses were finished their conversation about keyhole surgery. Literally standing in front of them and totally ignored, madness.

Food ordered. Starters to come with childs mains. All good. Food arrives quickly, kids meals and starters enjoyably good.

We got the steak deal; those unfortunately not so good. Steaks, zero seasoning and resting on the plate, over cooked. Menu looks ok for a pub but well over priced for the service and food given.

We did not complain because there was no point. One of the young ladies half asleep leaning on the bar. The sever; didn't come back to clear our staters, to engrossed in the key hole surgery convo. No fresh cutlery after staters, absolute shambles.

Would I return? No.

The only saving grace was the older blonde lady who was very nice and accommodating.

Desserts were lovely.

Owners need to seriously address the front of house. Makes sense it’s the same owners of the fiddlers. At least the front of house...

We’ve just been today , a group of 12 of us for my birthday. It’s the first time any of us had been and we went in a recommendation. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food. Some of us got the carvery, it was tasty, hot and a generous portion of meat. The gravy was also lovely and piping hot. The staff were all pleasant. Some of us ordered from the menue and the food came quickly and they all enjoyed it. There’s a good choice of desserts too. We were all able to order and pay separately which was helpful. We all said we’d go back again. Thank you

Hi I can’t seem to write a new review but we returned again last Sunday ( 14th Jan 24 )for another birthday and we were once again all very happy with the food. It was delicious, I had a carvery and the swede mash was the best!!! I loved it and got the Nutella Belgium waffles for desert ( I don’t usually bother with deserts but I’m glad I did , it was delicious and had so much Nutella on it. The menu looks lovely so I’m planning on going back one night mid week with some friends. Highly...

Food group varieties are for all or most appetites. They serve reasonable portion sizes that punters expect from an establishment but not found everywhere you'd like them to be. Here It's always presented very tastefully, and so are the glasses very clean and neat. I must, however, grant a negative appreciation for the cutlery that will just finish off a great fantastic experience every time you would attend but OK if a knock on the cutlery do not affect your overall visit. Service is very attentive, although to break away from that chain restaurants to a very classy restaurant venue would be easy by not having to attend the bar to order and pay but each to their own. Greater potential awaits... unfortunately I've not been able to attend this venue at its height of capacity but the day visits I've made was once average and another below average but standards were well worth it both times, I could not knock or fault them for nout.
