Piazza Latina Restaurant — Restaurant in Gateshead

Afer reading all the great reveiws for this resturant I decided to make a reservation to celebrate the birthday of one of our grandchildren. Big mistake !!!! Having dined in numerous italian resturants world wide Pizza Latina, Low Fell, receives the highest award as being the worst italian resturant we have ever experienced. 6 starters ordered, six starters left, 6 main course ordered 6 main course left, did not chance the deserts. Suffice to say our advice to anyone considering dining at Pizza Latina dont !! Date of visit 09.01.2020

13.01.20 So the owner has responded to the review, and to all intents and purpose he / she is calling us liars. There are a number of errors in his / her account so from the customers point of view here is a brief synopsis of the proceedings;

We arrived at 17.30 to celebrate the birthday of one of our grandchildren, to a very cold and empty resturant. We left at 19.00 and during that time we were the only customers and kept our coats on as the he resturant did not get any warmer.

The owner is correct we ordered 8 starters, however we classed the garic pizza bread & tomato garlic pizza bread as apperisers. Starters ordered were 2 Calamari, 2 Minestrone soup, 2 Potato skins. Mains consisted of 1 Sirlion steak medium rare, 1 Primervira, 2 Carbonara & 1 Chicken Valdostana & 1 Margarita pizza. Waiter returns 5 mins or so later apologises as the have run our of Calamari and can only offer 1 portion, so a replacement starter of potato skins was ordered. Out of the three potato skin portions 2 were untouched, the minestone soup was foul the defination of this soup is a thick soup with vegetables, such as celary, carrot, turnip, cabbage, etc. not as served, a very thin liquid which could only be described as red water with added frozen sweet corn and green beans, suffice to say after a few spoon fulls the soup was left. Its quite comical looking back the one and only waiter serving, had pulled his cardigan sleeves down to hold the soup dishes as they were very very hot, had the soup plates just come from the chef named Mic.... ? The Calamari was tough suggesting old stock & over cooked it was left uneaten.

Yes the Pasta Primavera was changed after the enquiring with the waiter what it contained after he consulted with the kitchen he returned advising it would be made with mushrooms & peas. A Pasta Primavera should containg fresh egetables, such as red onion, tomato, garlic, peppers, cougette and not mushrooms & peas. As the person who ordered the Primavera does not eat mushrooms or peas we requested if the dish could be changed to Bolognese, the waiter advised this was not a problem he then return as there was an issue with the ordered pasta as they had ran out and an alternative pasta was offered. The Valdostana was a joke it consisted of half of a chicken breast 2 slices of cheap ham and a very thin covering of indescribable cheese, the sauce being very thin and tasteless, only half the course was consumed. Both Carbonora's were only partially consumed and the medium rare steak was delived well done. The second steak was medium rare however after three of us tasted little bits it was left as being very distasteful. The Margarita pizza well what can we say the birthday person attempted one piece and then left it describing the pizza as not very nice. So the claim by the owner "Every main course dish came back clear and empty" an out & out lie, strange the owner makes no mention of clear plates for the starters, no because they were returned full !!

At this point we decided to leave tried to talk with what we can only assume was the chef / owner but he walked away insisting there was nothing wrong with the food. Well we beg to differ the food was awful. And yes we only left £50.00 and this was way in excess of what was deserved. BANNED from the resturant, no need, we have no intention of ever setting in foot in this resturant...

Absolutely disgusted in this restraunt. Placed an order around 6.45pm via uber eats for myself and my child as I had just got out of hospital and needed something quick and easy. Waited over 2 hours and heard nothing, called them and was met by a extremely rude Abbey with a vile attitude. She casually said could I not collect it as that is the only way I could get it - told her no. Then said well there is nothing I can do - I asked her to clarify my options and if I was getting the food or not. She said no sooner than 10pm ( for a order I made at 6.45 as if this is acceptable). Was told to cancel the order via uber eats, the resteraunt then cancelled it and charged me denying a refund claiming They had already made the food. They have stolen this money from me and have no intention to rectify it. No apology, no refund, no customer service. They must think £25 is worth their reputation and a loss of customers! Please avoid this place as they think its ok during a cost of living crisis to steal peoples money and not...

Popped into Piazza Latina tonight for a quick bit of food, was greeted upon entrance by a member of staff and taken to a table, drinks were brought straight away and I ordered a Mexican Chicken Wrap, which was also brought fairly quickly, so quick that we couldn't finish the bread we were given in the meanwhile! The wrap was fantastic, the chicken was coated in beautifully cooked Mexican spice, the peppers were bursting with flavour and it was all tied together with the freshly cooked dough wrap. I almost felt bad eating it, as it tasted so good. I was desperate for a Coppa Latina, an amazing chocolate and ice cream dessert, but I didn't have the space or the time and had to shoot off quickly. The price never fails to make me smile, I was shocked that we got the food so cheap, as the quality was so good. Will definitely continue to come back in future, the restaurant is fantastic and staff are always on hand to...
