A family member visited the pub in my car but was turned away as they were closing early due to it not being busy enough. I then received a parking ticket through a week later, i contacted the pub straight away and they assured me they would cancel the ticket. I then received a letter advising that the fee had double due to not being paid, i contacted them again to be told it was definitely sorted. I then received a letter advising the fee was now £170 and that i was being sent to debt collectors. When i questioned this with the manager I was spoken to very rudely and unprofessionally and told that it had been reduced to £20 weeks ago and if i didn't pay it then it was my problem, when i told her that i hadn't received an emailed with the reduced fee I was forwarded an email thread with a completely different customer (including their full name, email, contact number, daughters contact details and name and their full complaint). When i told the manager that this was not me she aggressively argued that this was emails with my mum (it was not). When she realised that i had been confused with a different customer i was told there was nothing more they could do and that in other words this was my fine to pay so not their problem. The only thing i was ever offered was a £100 voucher to be used at their pub. I have been trying to raise a complaint with them for almost a year now and all emails have been ignored and when i visit in person i am told that i will receive an email from the owner (John) but am never contacted. Their own staff told me that i would probably not hear a response. As a landlord of a pub who also owns 3 other active businesses, they would hardly have noticed £170 for their...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI took my family last Monday for a Bank Hol treat was left feeling really underwhelmed. While the 4 of us were still pulling the chairs out to sit down a young guy came and asked for drinks order..i asked if he could let us sit down....the very second we were sat he returned. The eat out to help out deal was on but for a 7pm booking i was still shocked at what wasn't available . When you study the menu and look forward to a decent meal its annoying to be told Roast garlic Argentinian king prawns...no sorry theres none left..Half baked Norfolk Lobster...no sorry theres none left..Nelson baked breads..no sorry thees none left...No bread!.So we ordered alternatives and i have to say 3 of the 4 meals were really nice. My daughters pizza was really burnt and blackened underneath, she'd eaten a quarter then just ate the toppings. The drinks chap came back to clear the plates without asking about a nearful plate of pizza that was turned black side up for him to see...i let him know we weren't happy and he said he would tell the chef. He never returned until i asked for the bill..i asked about our comment and he said ...oh yes the chef said he was sorry and left us. As we were leaving another guy who looked to be in charge maybe ...asked how everything was as we were leaving so i explained everything...he was really apologetic and wanted to refund us the cost of the pizza but by that point i just wanted to go.. But i really appreciated his self awareness of the situation and his customer service skills...our friends had been the night before and raved about the place...maybe our experience was a one off....i can't say I'd never go back but i...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis pub should have a big ādrinkers bewareā sign outside saying āTHIS IS NOT A PUBā. Iāve been using the Nelson for over 40 years but weāve not been in for a while because weāve been told to move to make way for those who are buying more than a few drinks on more than one occasion.
We went in on Sunday, because we heard that they had changed the management, we bought two drinks and sat down in two empty seats, within a few minutes the young lady from behind the bar came to us and said, quite abruptly, āI need this table for a bookingā and whilst I was waiting for a please/thank you or a suggestion as to where we might take the drinks she had just taken our money for, she just said āin a few minutesā and walked off!!!
I was gobsmacked, the management may have changed but they are still employing staff with the people skills of a traffic warden, only this particular young lady was more offensive!
I suppose you could just accept the fact that, generally speaking, they donāt want āthe drinkersā these days and buy a sausage roll or something to try and bribe them onto treating you like a ācustomerā, but given the fact that this place must be one of the most expensive places to drink outside of London, (the wine is astronomical), my advice would be to take your hard earned elsewhere and donāt use the Nelson at all.
Iāll keep a look out for the next change...
