I take my grandad here every Sunday for for lunch. He's 91 years old and it's the highlight of his week, a tradition we started since he lost his wife, my grandmother in October. Every Sunday the barman had his pint of Newcastle brown ready, which my grandad loves and he often brings it to our usual table. The food is always brilliant, my grandad loves the chips! For desert he always orders he rocky road Sunday, and the staff have no issues swapping the chocolate sauce for raspberry sauce for my grandad. It would be great if you did strawberry ice cream rather than chocolate, I think that would make it even better! The Barn Owl is lovley, top notch food, staff are friendly and attentive and they clearly work very hard. Also, they've had some of the same staff for years, which goes to show the business is ran well as it retains staff. Thank you Barn Owl for making me and my grandads Sunday, it's time we cherish together.
Edit! 28/01/24
Katie and Dale saw this review and they told me they do have strawberry ice cream. They amended Rocky Road sundae to Strawberry ice cream and made my grandads day, he was chuffed!
My partner and my rescue dog joined me and my grandad today, our dog had never been in a pub and Katie was brilliant with her! We ordered sausages from the doggy menu and we even got some vegan ice cream! The food was brilliant as always and the customer service too. The new menu design looks brilliant.
I always look forward to coming to The Barn Owl, value for money food, great Service, friendly staff, nice atmosphere.
Thank you for the spectacular sevice Dale, Katie, Steve, Steve C...
Read moreWe booked for Boxing Day so we didn’t have to cook, as there was only 2 adults and a child, booking and pre-booking made the day much easier, we arrived at 1pm and our starters didn’t arrive until 1.45pm - Child’s soup wasn’t steaming but was too hot and our adult starters were luke warm we ate them as we were hungry and the staff were very busy, we mentioned it to the waitress when she asked if everything was ok? We also asked if they could ensure our mains were hot she replied sorry about that will ask the kitchen may not happen? Didn’t leave us feeling very reassured! And she never offered to warm them or replace them as we had only just started them Our mains arrived adults first which meant we were reluctant to start our meals until the child’s meal arrived which were all hot as requested, and we had to ask for our sides as they also took time to arrive, the food was delicious and plentiful was very impressed and we all really enjoyed this course, puddings arrived soon after the table had been cleared, 2 out of 3 puddings were delicious and 1 of the puddings was a little disappointing as we expected more flavour and something a little different, given the title as it didn’t meet expectations! Overall we were happy and would happily recommend to others and was great value for money! Service at the bar was excellent, apart from the starter waitress comments everyone else was very friendly and welcoming! The crackers were a lovely touch too! One guest remarked that some Christmas music would of been nice! Thank you to everyone for making our Boxing Day eating...
Read moreIt was fairly busy the night we visited, but there was only one staff member to take orders and also serve at the bar. This meant nearly a 10 minute wait stood at the bar just to order our food. Didn’t realise until later that we could have order from our table, but I personally find this method poor, especially when in a group of people who all wish to order and pay separately. It’s much easier to open a tab and order all together. Waiting staff were good and friendly, although took a while to clear our table! A few of us had deserts and they came to the table whilst all the empty plates from the mains were still there. The food was nice! But that’s pretty much all there is to say about it. Everyone agreed it was simply alright, but nothing special. I had the surf and turf. Steak was well cooked, but a few scampi as the surf left it lacking. I had another one recently in a nearby pub which was £1 cheaper but been used kings size prawns in breadcrumbs and was just a bit more refined in general. 2 other members of the party both had the burger with pulled pork in. They said that the pulled pork didn’t really add anything to the burger and that it was more just like an additional BBQ sauce as opposed to being extra meaty. However, it hit the spot, and we had a good time, so I guess that’s the main thing. Unfortunately, due to the slightly underwhelming food for the price in comparison to other local places we have visited recently we would probably choose not to select here when deciding...
