Avoid the Haywain!
Down visiting family and decided to try the local pub for dinner. By far the worst meal we’ve ever had and prices aren’t exactly cheap. 5/6 meals arrived incorrect/poorly cooked. We waited an hour for starters then another 45 mins for food, the restaurant wasn’t even that busy. Starters came in two halves and 5-10 mins apart. For the mains we ordered 2 gammon steaks one with 2 pineapple pieces and one with 2 eggs, they came with one each. We understand this could be human error, however we ordered two sirloin steaks, one medium and one rare, these arrived well done (and frankly burnt) and the other was medium-well. Driest steaks we’ve ever had, and by far the worst. We ordered the cowboy burger, which arrived burnt, with no cheese and a pathetic 5p piece size of burger sauce. To top it off the bun was burnt black. We expressed our concerns regarding the burger, pointed out the 3 issues to the waiter, (who was fantastic) then the same burger and chips came back 10 minutes later with a dollop of sauce and cheese however still on the same burnt dried out bun. Again highlighted to the waiter the bun hadn’t been changed and it would be okay if he just brought a plain and uncooked bun out we would happily change it. To which he brought out half a bun. We were in disbelief at the state of the food. Drinks were also poured differently based on staff member, soft drinks poured with ice and fruit, and the same drink poured by someone else with nothing. The entire meal was very disappointing from start to finish. We would like to highlight how fantastic the two young men (waiters) were at handling the situation and when faced with issues (although busy, handled them politely and promptly). Having been a supervisor in hospitality myself I can understand their frustrations, and also understand what quality food and service looks...
Read moreI booked a table for four at 5.45 last night. Upon arrival we ordered drinks at the bar and asked for four sirloin steaks (medium) at £16.49 each and one peppercorn sauce at £2. On the bar was a sign to say that Thursday night is steak night 'steak and a drink for £13.75. I mentioned this and was told that sirloins were an upgrade £1.50 and drinks were only for standard drinks and did not apply to our selection without an upgrade charge. I decided not to bother with the offer and gave her my debit card. I then remembered that I had an email recently with a 30% off code (21235273212) I mentioned this to the barmaid but she said it was too late as she had put the payment through already. I sat at the table awaiting the meals and after ten minutes a server approached us and said that they had no sirloins left so we would have to have rump steak. I was not too pleased but had no choice really. Some minutes later she returned and informed us that they had no peppercorn sauce but we could have diane sauce. I refused the diane substitute but mentioned that we had been charged for the sauce and also the rump steaks were £2 cheaper than the sirloins that I had paid for. She went to the bar and returned with a credit slip and two pounds in cash. In my reckoning I had been overcharged £10 not £2 but by now I had got a little tired of the whole debacle in front of my guests and let it go. I am not at all happy with my experience or the service on...
Read moreFirst time we have been for a meal here and overall happy with what we had but not impressed with what we witnessed. They were short staffed and the place was very busy as got 2 for one meal on offer plus steak night. We waited a while to get served a good 20 mins to order the food then we saw staff who were under pressure having conflict with other staff members about the chef....this should have been done out of the public eye. We waited over an hour for our food; we were offered s complimentary drink but we declined as not long brought another one. The member of staff who spoke to us was polite and told us to call her should we change our minds. Thd food arrived the guy who brought it out talked loud and apologised but it seemed he didn't care what time we received the meal....he told us everybody in the pub was waiting for a length of time for their meals! The meal in general was ok; the bbq sauce looked like it had been thrown over the chicken as on one plate as it was dripping of the edge and it was cold....smothered chicken is a favourite meal of mine and I've never had cold sauce before anywhere else. So overall presentation was poor. I would go back but I'm unsure if I would stay; it would be dependent if we stayed to eat in not. I felt for the waiting and bar staff as they had to deal with the complaints and in fairness it wasn't their fault; all the problems seem to come from...
