Our family has completed three visits in the last six months. Unfortunately, it started really well, and got progressively worse.
Our first visit was Boxing Day. This experience was fantastic for the most part. The food was excellent. Really well cooked steaks and delicious sides, starters and cocktails. The kids' menu is generous and not filled with junk food only like so many other restaurants' kids' menus. The service on this occasion was mostly good, with the exception of a 45 minute wait for a cocktail order, which the manager took off the bill to compensate, but still, I'd prefer it just not to have happened in the first place. Nonetheless, we decided to go again as we liked it so much.
Second visit was at the end of February. This visit was still pretty good, but the service was noticeably slower and the staff seemed harried. Drinks took a long time, and the food was still pretty good, though not as good as it was on our previous Boxing Day visit. Nonetheless, it made for a really pleasant family meal out before we set off on an extended overseas trip.
Our third and final visit was on Father's Day. This was poor. First of all, the tomahawk offer that they had available, and which was the whole reason we even booked it, had sold out the day before Fathers' Day. Disappointing start. Then it just got worse. The service was slow, things often didn't show up when promised (high chair, for example, for my daughter, showed up with her main course, as if somehow it wasn't needed for her starter), and we were left without drinks for our main courses. The burger from the kids' menu was dry and disgusting (which they took off the bill, but again, it would just have been better had it not been done poorly to begin with). The 'camembert' sharer starter was terrible. I am sure that the cheese they use says 'camembert' on the label, but it's the worst, cheapest camembert I think I have ever had the misfortune to taste. No strong flavour, as camembert should have, and a 'plastic cheese' like texture - not runny, as baked camembert usually is. The dirty burger was tasty but suffered from the same problem that so many burgers seem to suffer from - too much stuff shoved in the burger, resulting in a difficult-to-eat soup with a bun that disintegrated in-hand. This burger was topped with slices of fillet steak, for which I was asked whether I wanted them 'pink' or 'well done'. I of course chose pink (I'm not a heathen), but they didn't arrive pink, so I didn't see the point of being asked really. Finally, the dessert I chose - the banoffee pie - was topped with cheap tasting cream and, allegedly, 'dulce de leche'. As with the Camembert I am sure this caramel sauce said 'dulce de leche' on the packaging, but in my opinion, it did not taste like dulce de leche. It also had the banana on the side, rather than in the pie, which was just a bit weird imho.
Sadly, I am not sure if we'll go back. It started off so well, but the restaurant is leaving money on the table and missing a trick. Firstly, there are not enough staff, and the ones they do have seem to be slightly forgetful in my experience. While they did check backs, it was obvious that these were perfunctory and designed to check the box, rather than take the opportunity to find out if we wanted anything else, as the waitress couldn't wait to get away; the result is that the restaurant missed out, as I wanted some wine with dinner, but couldn't order it!
Miller and Carter reminds me of what happened to Pizza Hut after PepsiCo bought it. Pizza Hut used to be great, but PepsiCo introduced cost cutting measure after cost cutting measure, resulting in low food quality and an experience that is unrecognisable from that of my...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Miller & Carter and indulging in their T-bone steak, and it was a truly memorable experience.
From the moment the T-bone steak arrived at the table, I was captivated by its impressive presentation. The steak was perfectly cooked to my desired level of doneness, with a beautiful sear on the outside and a juicy, tender interior. The generous portion size of the T-bone was truly impressive and left me excited to dig in.
As I took my first bite, I was immediately met with an explosion of flavors. The combination of the tenderloin and strip steak portions in the T-bone cut provided a delightful balance of tenderness and rich, beefy flavor. The meat was incredibly succulent and had a melt-in-your-mouth texture that showcased the skillful preparation and quality of the steak.
The T-bone steak was accompanied by a selection of delectable sides that elevated the dining experience further. The buttery, creamy mashed potatoes were the perfect complement to the robust flavors of the steak, while the fresh, crisp vegetables added a refreshing touch to the overall dish.
Not only was the food exceptional, but the service at Miller & Carter was also top-notch. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was enjoyable. They provided helpful recommendations, answered our questions with enthusiasm, and ensured that we felt well taken care of throughout our visit.
The ambiance of the restaurant added to the overall appeal. The elegant yet cozy atmosphere created a perfect setting for a special meal. The dim lighting, comfortable seating, and tasteful decor contributed to a relaxed and sophisticated dining environment.
In conclusion, the T-bone steak at Miller & Carter was an absolute delight. The impeccable cooking, exquisite flavors, and attentive service combined to create an unforgettable dining experience. If you are a steak enthusiast seeking a memorable culinary adventure, I highly recommend trying the T-bone steak at Miller & Carter. You won't be disappointed.

Read moreMiller & Carter - A Christmas Day Disappointment
We travelled a considerable distance for what was supposed to be a special Christmas Day meal at Miller & Carter, expecting a truly memorable experience. Sadly, our expectations were far from met.
At £95 per person, we anticipated a high level of service and quality. However, our table and seats were shockingly dirty, covered in breadcrumbs. To add to our dismay, the plates were also filthy and sticky. When we brought this to the attention of the waitress, her response was dismissive and lacked any genuine apology.
The service throughout the meal was underwhelming. Wait staff were unfriendly and lacked any sense of attentiveness. Plates were simply dumped on the table, lacking any finesse or care. We were repeatedly asked to check if that was our order was right when the order was clearly written on the table place card.
While the starters were enjoyable, the main course of steak was a major letdown. The meat was chewy and surprisingly flavorless. To make matters worse, my husband's steak contained a thick chewy sinew along the length pf the steak, completely ruining his dining experience. This unfortunate incident has left me quite disheartened about steak for the foreseeable future.
Thankfully, the desserts were enjoyable. However, the overall experience was marred by the poor quality of food, the unbothered attitude of the staff, and the unacceptable levels of hygiene and cleanliness.
An important point to note is that the restaurant was not busy at all! There were many empty tables.
Our first visit to Miller & Carter was unfortunately a forgettable one. We sincerely hope this feedback is taken seriously to improve the quality of service and dining experience for...
