I visited Essential Eating at York Business Park and was pleasantly impressed. This clean, well-maintained café offers exactly what you need – friendly, welcoming staff, proper coffee served in nice porcelain cups, and good quality food without any pretensions. My breakfast sandwich was well-prepared, and the crockery was a nice touch that elevated the experience. They do the basics really well, which is often all you want. Shocking! I ordered a ‘Gluten Free Breakfast’ which they advertise on the menu. When my breakfast arrived, it had both black pudding & sausages on it (both of which aren’t gluten free very often). I enquired with the staff whether they were gluten free or not, to which they told me the toast was… but the black pudding or sausage might not be. They didn’t offer to swap my breakfast or anything, I was thoroughly disappointed with their level of knowledge on allergies when they clearly offer ‘Gluten Free’...

Nice jacket potato, staff very friendly and the food is prepared quite quick. The wooden lodge does look nice set in the court yard of a close office space.
