I can see why this dude hides away in a corner. The best thing about this place is the neon sign. The tacos were actually laughable. The filling was approximately the size of an index finger and the taco the size you would find in miniture land if that was a place. If I had eaten it, it would have been one or two bites at best. I decided to spit it out in case of food poisoning as it tasted awful and thought that if any food establishment that thought this was appropriate fare to serve for £8 it was not worth trusting, added to that, the chef looking like he had just come away from a shift as a hairy biker mechanic fixing an oil leak. It was sold as pulled pork and pulled it was not, it was slices of meat in an inedible sauce. Just order a pizza next door and save yourself and Your curiosity. May I suggest to the proprietor that you either close down or look at how a Real taco is made and filled. No more Fooling customers with a neon sign and catchy name that you actually serve something that is anywhere near edible or worth us paying our hard...
Read moreThis is a wonderful and understated little BBQ hut and Polzeath is incredibly lucky to have Hellfire. I am totally won over by the smash burgers; the best I’ve ever had anywhere. Perfectly seared to lock in maximum flavour. Alex is a skilled pitmaster/chef and it shows in how well he prepares meat as well as pairing it with high quality toppings and condiments.
I devoured the Big Kahuna Style smash burger on my last visit; a must-have for spicy burger fans with its (to die for) pineapple/habanero salsa. Today I felt like something more Kansas City-inspired so tried BBQ Style, topped with oak smoked pork shoulder and barbecue sauce. Exactly what the Doctor ordered after a heavy surf session.
And don’t sleep on the nachos! The blue maize/corn tortilla chips are a really nice touch you don’t see often and are hand fried by Alex himself. You keep grilling/smoking and I’ll keep surfing/coming for...
Read moreHad the Kahuna smashed burger and it was extremely moreish, every bite was a juicy delight. Well-balanced sweet and salty flavour with a perfect little kick from the dashes of pineapple habanero salsa - if I were given ten of them I’d loosen my beach shorts without a word and absolutely demolish them ALL. Also the homemade guacamole accompanying the crispy tortilla chips is extremely refreshing and the whole side doesn’t put you into a carb coma. Owner and pitmaster is super lovely, and is admirably banging out some masterpieces from a tiny space, which all work really well to fuel a hard day at...
