Although we had pre booked our meals and reserved a table long in advance, the service was horrific! It was a wait to be seated with missing chairs and a 40+ minute wait for our food to be served with a timer that didn’t work; leaving the carvery choices to mistime their meals with the pre booked choices! This doesn’t go well with 4 babies/toddlers/children at the table after a long walk to get there and the adults that are also gasping.

The servers did their job but at a bare minimum, I appreciate it was busy but from the other reviews I take it that this is a regular occurrence at the Anchor! This shouldn’t have been so hard. There were no apologies or compensation and one even said “don’t ask me any questions”-after being told about the wait, we weren’t laughing.

The food itself was meh- basic and super overpriced, leading to this place being considered a tourist trap. The carvery was basic, good meat but heat lamped veg with sad potatoes and a ridiculous, chaotic wait in a poor location of one of the dining rooms!! One of our party was left waiting for ages to be served as the carvery staff prioritised a dog having prime meat from the joint which is disgusting and rude.

You can’t charge these prices when a Wetherspoons offers a better experience. We had to fetch our own drinks, chairs and (empty) sauces, wait nearly an hour in total to be seated and served for the joy of spending £500 and leaving disappointed.

Oh, and our plates and glasses wouldn’t be cleared so we had to fill a neighbouring table with our empties to avoid a full, dirty table.

As a party of 16 with a love for spending on food and drink, we could have stayed way longer, spending way more but we couldn’t wait to leave and...

Went here one evening whilst on holiday in the area. Looked online and the menu looked good and reasonably priced. Arrived and the staff were very nice and gave a nice welcome, it was downhill from there. We were given a menu that was extremely limited, nothing like the one online. When I enquired about this I was told the one online is the summer menu which I kind of understood but think if they are going to do this they should update there website accordingly especially as the price had also increased substantially. Trying to not let it spoil our evening we placed our orders. I had a starter of garlic mushrooms. Basically it was some tinned mushrooms on a piece of bread that seemed to have been toasted to a hard biscuit, then covered in some green salad. The plus was it had some kind of sauce which was ok. £6.25 was the price of this and £6.00 for my wife's two mediocre slightly overcooked fishcakes. Not a good start but I ordered beer battered Haddock and chips for my main course, surely such a simple meal could not go wrong, how wrong could I be. The haddock was like a leather boot sole, along with the accompanying 12 skinny fries. Again one positive was the Pea Puree which was nice. This meal was around £12 -13. If the food was cheap I could accept it poor quality, if the food was very good I could accept the high price but it was poor quality and expensive this is not acceptable. Again I must pont out the serving staff were very good but they need to seriously take a long hard look at their chef or their prices, the two are incompatible. Shame really it's in a lovely setting and it's a nice environment just let markedly let down...

What a beautiful and well run establishment! I visited here today with my family and what a lovely experience we all had. The food was amazing! I opted for the vegan Buttermilk styled burger and although hesitant at first due to me being Vegetarian and not Vegan ( I often find many places cater for Vegans which is brilliant but it is often a miss when it comes to Vegetarian options and individuals will know these dietary choices are opposites and I often feel there aren't many options offered to cater for each individually). My choice of dish did not disappoint! I thoroughly enjoyed my meal so much so that I asked if it were possible for me to take home what was left of the burger! ( I never do this! ) This was due to being the portion sizes being generous but not overbearing, and my smaller than average appetite appreciating and enjoying the food that I did not want to waste!. I must say the food, not only my own but the other 4 people dishes were beautifully presented and thoroughly enjoyed. I would most definitely recommend this restaurant and would like to say thankyou to the chef or chefs for our tasty, fulfilling and delicious meals and also a big thankyou to all of the staff who were on shift today- a credit to the business! always smiling and so very polite and welcoming despite the busy environment and atmosphere around them. We will definitely be returning, thankyou to all of the staff today - I hope you are truly recognised for all the hard work you all put in and have...

This place is situated in the shadows of Tintern Abbey itself, right on the Rive Wye. The Anchor inn looked to be one of the nicer pub restaurants in the area with loads of outdoor seating, plenty of play area for kids, including a climbing frame and green, and an appealing rustic look. The inside of the pub was decorated nicely and had lots of memorabilia relating to the mill nearby and the areas history. The seating wasn't crammed in either like some pubs and plenty of room was available making it easily accessible for wheelchair users. It is also dog friendly. ( kids are tolerated. Only joking. Kids are very welcome) We decided on our choice of food, and we're promptly told our choices were out of stock. Surprising really as we prebooked for 7:30pm, ( not late by any stretch of the imagination) and would have expected better to be frank. When the food did turn up, ( 15 mins wait time) it was not as ordered, not really that hot, and one of the dishes was almost tasteless. Pretty poor show if I'm honest. Overall, very underwhelming and definitely not somewhere I would choose to visit again. Sad really as it really is in a nice place and could do so much better.

We have visited several times, walking up to Tintern. It’s a very covid-secure setting both inside and outside with Tracking and sanitising well established. Thoughtful attention was given from the moment we arrived (seating preferences really listened to) and throughout our stay. We noted thorough sanitising and careful rotation of seating. Ordering is via app (and there's facility to order personally should there be difficulty, and the app takes a little time to get used to, as all of these do with a drinks and food menu to navigate on a phone). The beer, as always, is well kept. Our favourites, fish and chips and calamari are well cooked. The setting is delightful of course: views are wonderful - we have even sat under the emerging stars on the covered balcony in the rain!

A very well run pub restaurant with a tea room set in a beautiful location. Located next to the ruins of Tinturn Abbey and the Wye river valley . The food and service was excellent with friendly and helpful staff . Food is served all day and with a good range of drinks. There is plenty of seating in and out with a kids play area across the field. There's disability access and plenty of parking for all. The parking is £3 for all day and you can claim it back if you order food at the pub just hand over your recipe at the bar . The view's from the garden's are great but I would advise visit during mid week as it can get very busy at the weekend's. Highly recommend well worth the visit. Prices are very reasonable.
