I always love travelling around Scotland but the best part is trying new places to eat. Myself & my Girlfriend were visiting the Isle of Skye for the weekend but were staying nearby in Glenelg so after a short look online The Clachan Bar had really good ratings and a very delicious menu. We phoned a few days prior to arrival which we were glad we did as they were fully booked for walk ins on the day.
As we arrived in Dornie, it didn't take us long to spot The Clachan in all its blue glory with its small seating area outside. As we walked in the front door it was almost like everyone stopped & stared at us like strangers but were soon made to feel welcome by the staff who were running around with meals and drinks. The Clachan Pub is a fantastic small village pub as you can imagine with only a handful of seats for the restaurant but is full of tourists and travellers trying out some local cuisine.
We were sat next to a couple who were on holiday in the area, so it was great to chat with them about where they came from and to speak about different things to do in the area. The menu is quite small but full of great options such as: burgers, fish & chips, pork loin, steak and salads which are all produced locally to the Highlands which is great!
The food came out in no time at all despite how busy they were being a Saturday evening, myself and the girlfriend both had the cheese & bacon burger which was full of flavour and fell apart in your mouth, it would be rude not to have desert being on holiday, so opted for the fudge cake and strawberry meringue which once again were delicious and all adequately priced.
I can't quite describe how homey the Clachan felt with its wood burning stove, half pub/restaurant interior, being family & dog friendly with great staff it really was a great spot for dinner. By the time we had finished speaking with everyone it was 10:30pm and time for us to head back to Glenelg. We will definitely be back to The...
Read moreI cannot praise this pub enough! Having just got married at the beautiful Eilean Donan Castle across the road, my 'now' wife and our 2-year old daughter headed to the Clachan for a post-wedding meal & drinks (obviously still dressed to the nines !). This was on a Thursday evening (8th May 2025) and the place was buzzing ! Probably helped by the attendance of a large Irish wedding party. I think the couple were getting married on the Saturday, but had started early... !!! I digress. The food was excellent and so were the staff. God knows how they managed when the place seemed fit to burst, but they did. ( I ended up giving what is definitely the largest tip of my life & I'm not known for my outward displays of generosity, but it was thoroughly deserved... and I was slightly drunk by then too !) 😅 All in all - a great pub / restaurant with excellent food, staff and atmosphere ( they even had a Ceilidh band playing. ) what more...
Read moreThe first thing to say is book to avoid disappointment, there were a few hopefuls that unfortunately couldn't be seated while we were there. We came for dinner while staying in a lovely B&B just over the bridge in Ardelve, and we were lucky enough to have had Mary, the wonderful B&B owner offer to book our table for dinner at The Clachan on our behalf in advance. I was absolutely blown away by the quality of the food here and the friendly and efficient service. I had the monkfish, while my partner had the venison, and we shared a brownie for dessert. Everything was truly delicious and served in very good time, and the pricing is most reasonable. The atmosphere was very pleasant and relaxed, while the setting is cosy but not at all cramped, and traditional whilst being very friendly and open-hearted. After dinner we took the very short walk to see Eilean Donan castle at sunset to top off a...
