Dog friendly they say. I had my tiny,3 pound Chihuahua with me,he was in my arms and the waitress came and asked him to not be(from the chef?...chef is big word for a cafe) Anyways, being polite people,we put him in his carrier
I asked if, with the tuna toastie, if I could have cheese , the waitress said " Emm il have to ask"..... It's a bit of cheese!! hardly taxing on a " chef".
When it came ,the liquid that poured from my sandwich was vast....clearly the tuna was tinned and hadn't been drained properly.
It was dry, lacked any flavour, just not good at all and I'm not a fussy person.
My Husband did however enjoy his fish roll with mushy peas...but it wasn't worth the money.
We did leave a tip as we're not rude and people deserve to be paid regardless but it was not a good experience.
No atmosphere, asking me to put our dog off of the table when he wasn't on it.Substandrad food.
Wouldn't go back.
( And no, didn't say at the time as it's not super expensive to matter to cause a fuss and it was SO quiet it would've been uncomfortable).
EDIT- Re my Chihuahua, no, he can't go on the floor, if he got stood on it could break his leg, he was wrapped up (feet included)and no part of him was touching the table,he was in my arms NOT touching the table. I then asked if he was ok in his carrier on the chair and was told, yes. Kids put their feet on chairs. Our dog is impeccabley behaved and quiet unlike most kids😬 My dog goes to many places to eat, lovely quality restaurants and has always been made welcome even in my arms( AGAIN,not on a table). Perhaps it's best I stick to these places that are more welcoming and have food to my taste.
Re the fish sandwich, my Husband did Not compliment it many times , what a lie😂 he said it was nice once WHEN ASKED! As for the price, it is probably £2 overpriced in my opinion, also, I didn't say he didn't enjoy it??
The tuna, you've certainly made it sound WAY fancier than it was, it was, as I stated, dry and bland and juices were horrible.(I also don't need a detailed description on how liquid appears,I have had many tuna mayo sandwiches sans liquid spilling out, the tuna was clearly not drained enough , nothing to do with mayo!)
As I say, chef is a grand word for someone who puts together some sandwiches..but hey, whatever. As for a " very busy morning" that has NOTHING to do with how service and food should be for the rest of the day! It's not like I asked for something totally off menu or fancy, it's a tuna and cheese sandwich! Cheese being the only thing "off menu" I asked for! And given , as you say, it was so quiet it's hardly taxing to pop a slice of cheese on a sandwich! BELOW is a review from someone else re the cheese....seems asking for cheese is a huge ordeal and the waitresses do their best to accommodate such a huge change in the food🤔
I appreciate that the menu states you can only have two items on a roll but I had asked if it was possible to add cheese. Maybe this upset the staff.(From another reviewer)
Please don't use the servers age like that is relevant...as I say, it's cheese...hardly a big deal and the over exaggerating is cringe, to say she done her best to accommodate me, like I asked for something grande and was demanding! We were very friendly, polite and left a decent tip(as I say, people have to make a living not her fault I didn't enjoy the food).
I've noticed several one stars and two of those where you guys weren't accommodating for the smallest of things like someone wanted a roll in egg mayo instead of a sandwich, if rolls are available what's the issue?
I'm sorry that my HONEST review has clearly rankled you so much, however, it's just that, MY review, MY opinion and my food was VERY basic and bland.
Good luck with your business, I'm sure those with a blander pallette would be fine there but given the very limited options for some miles for somewhere to eat, im sure youl be...
Read moreWe've had the best sensory experience at The Harbourside Café in Dunure, South Ayrshire. The magic starts with the natural setting it is nested in: Wonderful little harbour tucked away in a scenery where one feels lost in some folklore tale involving gentle mermaids singing to the friendly locals. Entering the Café, situated at the foot of the pier stretching out towards the sea, we could not help but feel hugged by the cosy and warm haven of tasteful decor and smells of coffee and sweets. We were welcomed by the cordial and attentive owners, Chef Robbo, his partner Lucy and their young son Benjamin, making us immediately feel at home and excited to taste their creations. The menu was comprehensive in its offering comfort breakfast classics, but promising of special personal twists and fresh local produce, at very reasonable price; especially considering it would turn out to be the best breakfast we've had in all our travels! The poached Hollandaise and French bread were heaven on a plate, and although the portions were very generous, we could not resist buying cakes to take away with us, as they looked as heavenly as the meals on the menu (and they were!). Our experience made us feel as if we were part of this folklore tale indeed, thus we will be back to eat at "our friends' table" again and we thoroughly advise you come...
Read moreHarbour Side Coffee and Kitchen is an absolute gem. From the moment you walk in, the ethos of quality and care is clear, with their sign proudly stating they serve fresh food made from the best local ingredients. They promise it's worth the wait, but honestly, we didn’t have to wait long at all—and the food was incredible.
I had the mac and cheese, which was creamy and perfectly cooked, while my partner opted for the vegan chilli, a hearty and flavour-packed dish. The staff took the time to explain the menu and go through the vegan options in detail, which was a nice touch. For those with a sweet tooth, the cake selection is not to be missed—we couldn’t resist trying a vegan brownie, and it was as rich and indulgent as any I've had.
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with the added bonus of being able to see the chefs at work in the kitchen, which adds a lovely personal touch. The service staff were friendly and attentive, rounding off what was a thoroughly enjoyable visit. If you’re in the area, this place is...
