Had a table booked for Valentines dinner at 6 pm. The restaurant was not busy. We got a lovely warm place by a radiator, as we required. We ordered prawn and calamari for starters, prawn spaghetti and buttered chicken penne for the main course. My son had the prawn dinner and it was pleasant. My penne however was stodgy and overcooked, I could only manage to eat half of my portion, I did appreciate the flavour though. I did mention this to an attentive waiter. The dessert of cheesecake and tiramisu was nice 🙂 Tap water had a strange smell and taste to it, a slice of lemon in a jar could rectify the problem. We drank moktails, they were lovely. As I was waiting for my dessert, I felt heavy, as if I had a meal of rocks. The penne and chicken refused to digest. On the way home I started feeling more digestive discomfort. 8 hours after the meal, I was glad that I was home and close to my bathroom. It's 4 am now, and I still cannot sleep, waiting for my stomach to settle. The only other thing I had to eat yesterday was a croissant with coffee 😔 I just wanted to treat myself and my son to an Italian meal on a special day. The day became special for a different reason unfortunately. 😔 All in all, a confused restaurant, Mexican? Indian? Definitely not Italian. With bad food hygiene and very overpriced for what it's...
Read moreGenuinely an incredible place, and massively underrated. The service was great, really really nice people, very considerate of allergies and dietary requirements, plenty of options even for people like me who are vegetarian and with a nut allergy. And the food we had was absolutely gorgeous! The mix of Indian and Mexican food isn't something I've seen before, but it works so so well, and the execution here is incredible, not just in the flavour, but in the variety too, even if you like mexican food more than indian food or the other way around theres meals that lean more either way and meals that meet in the middle. Every bit was beautiful and the portions were a very nice size!
The price is amazing for the quality and quantity of food. I feel like a lot of places that create a unique combination like this charge extra for the gimmick, but this is just a very honest and good price for absolutely wonderful food.
I couldn't stay long, so I couldn't take in the atmosphere maybe as much as I'd have liked, put the place is very well decorated, very colourful full wall art inspired by the cultures that make up the menu, just all feeling nice and cohesive.
All in all I had an amazing time, if I'm ever back in Cardiff I'd absolutely go again and I really really hope they get more business, this place really...
Read moreI was visiting Cardiff with family and were looking for a place to eat. I'm not a very spicy or adventurous eater. Mexican food is usually last on my list of places I would choose and Indian food doesn't make the list at all! But the rest thought they would enjoy it. I thought I'd be a good sport and have toast when we got home, if needed. We were the first customers of the day and the chef (who I assume was also the owner) greeted us warmly. He assured us that the food was not too spicy. I asked how the Mexican-Indian food combo came to be. He said he had been cooking for 20 years and there were enough Mexican restaurants and enough Indian and he wanted to do something new. He really hit it on the head with this combo! I ordered the fajitas and they were absolutely delicious. I loved the blend of the cultural flavors. They were spot on and scrumptious. Perfectly seasoned to be so flavorful without being too hot and spicy. Every at our table had a delicious meal. The service and atmosphere were great. The chef/owner has a kind demeanor and a wonderful smile. He has reason to smile! He's created a wonderful spot to eat with great food that is sure to be a success. I highly recommend Vivo Amigo in Cardiff! I would go back if I ever visit...
