5 Star Family Pub with fabulous Grub.
The family 4 legged friend is also welcome. At the end of an action packed day on the beach we looked for a dog friendly place we could eat with a nice menu and surroundings. The Lacon Arms ticked all the boxes. From just picking up the phone and speaking to the host you felt welcomed. They were very informative around what was being served that evening including the buffet menu as it was a Tuesday evening. Also there was the added bonus of a free fireworks display that night.
We arrived to find our reserved table which makes you feel that little extra special... I think the picture will say more than I could.
Before I talk about the good food served here I'll talk about the hospitality because this is where all 5 stars were earned I would give more but there are no more stars to offer. Greeted by the landlady herself and served by her excellent staff and other family members we felt very welcomed. This is why we love Norfolk where the folk are amongst the most friendly in Britain.
Once settled we chose the buffet menu which was a Tuesday night special. Lovely selection of great pub grub served piping hot. We arrived towards the end but nevertheless hot food was still being prepared By chefs to ensure freshness. There were a few tired items but it is to be expected when you are the 5 minutes from last entry. We were not rushed in any way to finish quick.
We relaxed and ate our food in the wonderful newly built area of the pub. We were visited by the hosts and they did amahe a real fuss of our Neo (dog) who felt extra special.
This place is a real recommend! Thank you for a wonderful meal and great...
Read moreIt's quite a nice pub near the beach, with quaint, dark, olde worlde entrance, with a light airy conservatory and beer garden with kids' play area. Very nice helpful staff and unlike other reviewers, I had no problem with the interesting flexible ordering and pick up or table service for drinks (and food). The prices are what you expect for a tourist area and food portions are reasonable if not large. We had veg lasagne which was nice but the side pot of coleslaw was warm, but not fizzy, as if it had been out for a while. The chef's veg chilli was edible but so bland, being a mix of beans with tomatoes, onion and pepper in a watery juice and only filled a third of the good sized bowl. The rest of the bowl was plain boiled rice. On top were a few tortilla chips, which should have been nachos. Nachos were described elsewhere in the menu as loaded tortilla chips with guacamole and salsa, and with a cheese option, including vegan. They had also piled on pickled jalapenos to give it a kick and while I love jalapenos, it doesn't replace a proper chilli sauce. They also do a "dirty chips bucket" for £9 which my kids tried and the cauliflower wing version was very tasty but don't get thinking KFC bucket. It's a cardboard tub about the size of a large, wide coffee mug. Free salad bar! It's also dog-friendly here, a bit too much for me. The table next to us were allowed to have their dog sat at the table, which I thought weird, but worse some staff members were stroking the animals while serving food. Each to their own. I wouldn't avoid this hostelry if we come back this way though,...
Read moreUnless you want carvery (which I didnt) then don't bother on a Sunday. Ordered a korean pulled pork sandwich. To be told ten minutes later that there hasn't been any all day. So ordered off the very limited light bites menu. A burger. Usually the safe option. Another 10 minute wait for the lady to come and tell an already starving family that the frier had just been cleaned so had to wait for them to get back up to temperature.
Food came out eventually. My wife's first. 5 minutes before everyone else's. At £7 For a burger basket they should wear a mask when taking your money. Honestly. I seriously had a better juicier burger for 99p from a small shack up the road on the first day we got here.
The bun was a floured bap. Dry...not even butter. No cheese No onions The burger itself was half the size of the bun and you could play hockey with it. So dry I had to swallow it like a pelican. I hope they order them in because if that was made inhouse it's embarrassing. By the end my mouth was like Ghandi's flip flop.
Only gave one star because the drinks were cold and 0 stars doesn't seem to be an option
Table opposite us all had carvery and most was left on every plate so seems it wasn't just me that was disappointed
No check back mid meal off waiting staff.
No mention off staff of free ice cream for the kids meals.
And 2 members of staff eating a full carvery and playing on their phones sat at the bar where people order drinks is very unprofessional. All I can say is they must get the...
