I booked this with Dominique who was an absolute pleasure to deal with over the phone. She arranged a secluded dining spot where the four of us could enjoy a Sunday Lunch with our two young dogs.
The service team on the day were absolutely exceptional in their care and attention to detail from the moment we arrived. Nothing was too much trouble from ordering drinks and our lunches to a very special act of kindness towards our four legged family members.
Our dogs were made to feel very welcome and my dog Benson is used to a special treat when we take him out. One of the lovely serving staff provided him with some beef scraps which he soon polished off and I ordered some sausages for him as well which were devoured without hesitation. The same could be said for our lunches. Piping hot and piled high with beautifully cooked meat, vegetables and a sumptuous Yorkshire pudding the meat eaters in the party barely left a morsel. My tasty vegetarian option came with a delicious and delicate gravy and was served at the same time as the rest of my group so nice we could all eat together.
What can I say about the puddings except oh la la - four naughty plates of tastebud tingling desserts all oozing luxurious mouthfuls and not crumb left in the bowls!
The Old Manor is a beautiful building in Potters Bar and a complete surprise to find such top notch dining experience without blowing your budget, putting on a tuxedo, or travelling miles to find. We came after our dog walk and were greeted warmly and enjoyed our meal in a relaxing and welcoming environment. The staff are absolutely outstanding, the food delicious and they welcomed our pooches as though they were their own.
The Old Manor deserves much more than the five stars I can award it and it certainly gets a five paw rating from Benson for the best hospitality we have encountered 🐾 🐾🐾🐾🐾⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Do pay the team a visit - you will not be disappointed but you might need a food nap after indulging in their gorgeous Sunday Lunch - we...
Read moreThis fantastic, historic building, dating back to the 13th century, opened it's doors in December, 2000, serving as a restaurant and pub. I was stunned at the original old brickwork as soon as my eyes fell upon it's wonderful structure. Inside, too, was breathtaking, with its beams and its large, inglenook, fire place. I felt like I had been whisked back in time and was really excited at the prospect of having lunch in The Old Manor, along with my father and some dear friends, who had recommended the place. It was Tuesday, 2pm, when we arrived ( therefore, not too busy) and we were invited to sit wherever we chose. We found a nice table where we could touch, the incredibly old brickwork and I wondered to myself 'If only these old walls could talk, what tales they would tell.' The menus arrived and beverages were ordered. The menu was excellent with varied starters, main courses and desserts. One lamb chops, one steak pie, one Haddock and chips and I chose the sea-bass. All meals, served hot and all mouthwateringly delicious. Our compliments to the chef. The range of desserts was also fabulous, but as we were all full from the main courses, we had to pass. We did however, choose what we would have had, if we had had room. Lemon tart, banoffi pie, treacle sponge, and I would have opted for Belgium chocolate brownie! We had a wonderful waitress who introduced herself as Shirley. She was smiley, patient and helpful. I give The Old Manor 5 big fat mouthwatering stars. Apparently this place is incredibly busy on the weekends, and I'm not in the least bit surprised. A good size venue, with lovely, separate bar (which also serves food) along with an upstairs, where you can also dine, and, seperate room for private lunch / dinner parties / parties. Please take a look at the lots of photos I took, of The Old Manor. I really...
Read moreI went to the Old Manor for a lunch time meal with my wife and we were served quickly for our drinks... However, that's where the positive experience ends I'm afraid.
When we received our drinks we were not prompted to order food and it took a good 10 minutes after drinks to get approached for ordering food. Do bear in mind there were only 3 tables on at this time so it wasn't "Busy".
We only ordered mains and nothing else, expecting it to be quick. And thankfully we did only order Mains, because if we had ordered a 3 course we would have probably been there for over 2 hours.
Fast forward 45+ minutes (Yes you read that right) it took over 45 minutes for our food to arrive. We ordered the Burger and the Chicken Escalope. It doesn't take over 45 minutes during a quiet time to fry some chicken, chips and grill a burger.
When we received our food the only positive really was that it was piping hot. After we started to dig in, the food was mediocre, nothing to rave about (Which is unfortunate, because The Old Manor used to be such a great place to get food.) The waiting staff didn't check up on us for the "Post food delivery checkup" so we ate it quickly and thankfully there were no issues with it.
This isn't the first time, however that we've had service this bad. In the last 6 months we've been 3 times, one of which was Mothers Day and even then it wasn't the best and service was super slow.
Overall it's an understaffing issue, both front of house and kitchen. I do hope you take measures to improve the service here. As this has caused such a dampener on what should have been a lovely lunch with my...
