The Bengal — Restaurant in Huntingdonshire

On the 5th March my wife and I went for a meal at the Bengal. Within about 30 seconds of eating the jalfrezi I had such an acute bad reaction to such an intense burning sensation inside my mouth. I started sweating profusely, my throat was burning and tounge. I literally could not speak and thought I was going to pass out. The waitress came to see what was wrong with with me, and stated that another customer had been experiencing problems with the jalfrezi.. She kindly offered some cooling refreshing mango juice which brought my temperature down. The owner came to see me as well and admitted that the chef had made the curry too spicy hot. When we came to pay the bill, the owner was very reluctant to reduce the bill as could not eat the meal. After much frustration and having to argue my point, he only reduced the bill by £10. I felt very aggrieved by the whole experience upsetting and had harmed my health for a short period of time. If the owner was was anywhere decent, he would have made no charge and apologise accordingly. He done none of those gestures, and I would now recommend people not to visit this establishment. Disappointed. Phone eticate really leaves alot to be desired. English girl in there was quite good, every one else falls a bit short. Food wasn't horrible but hand on heart I think the takeaway Indian from tesco is nicer. Curry was flavourless, I asked for mild. And to be fair it was mild, but it seemed to lose all the flavour as well as the heat. Poppadoms were scorched and left an odd flavour. All things Considered I think it's worth the extra money and time to drive to whittlesey and get one from there.

Went back. . . . . Glutton for punishment, best way to describe this place is inconsistent. You have one tonight and it may be great, tomorrow could be inedible. The last 3 times I've been here,(ALWAYS order the same dish)the first time I could taste no spice, it was like soup. The 2nd time was really quite nice. Tonight it was inedible, it was so hot, I wouldn't be wrong to compare it with paint stripper. Its the kind of food, if I fed it to my dog, the dog would die. Placed my order, they read it back to me and everything was fine got told it would be 20-30 minutes. 20 minutes later only half the order turned up. Phoned up to complain, spoke to a very helpful worker who apologised and promised it would be fired straight away. 40 minutes later and the rest of the meal hasn't turned up. Phoned up again to be told that he had stopped off to pick up some coke on the way back and left his phone at the restaurant. When the meal finally arrived the owner didn't even apologise for his mistake and the fact that it had now been over a hour since ordering. Absolutely disgusting. Will not be going back...
