Unfortunately i can't agree with the good reviews that we read to make us book a table here. Seated upstairs.... Cold room... People dining with coats /jackets on.
I picked the garlic mushrooms with pasta to start.... Could barely taste the garlic, bland & needed some kind of bread to soak up the sauce... & this was weak & watery. Cutlery was a knife and fork... a spoon & fork would have been better. I left half the portion.
Hubbys starter... Cauliflower fritters with a curry mayo.... If it wasn't for the mayo then you'd taste nothing but batter. Didn't taste the cauliflower at all! He left half the starter.
Main course... I chose the scampi... It was over cooked, hard breadcrumbs and obviously frozen. The chips & mushy peas were half decent.
Hubbys main... Spaghetti bolognaise. Flipn eck... This was dreadful. The mince was so ground it was resembling puppy dog meat. Pureed. Inedible. & after trying it myself i agreed it was vile.
Maybe we just picked the wrong meals... Because reading the reviews it appears I'm the only one saying I'd not return.
The young girls waiting on are very polite... No problems with their service. But the food for us was certainly not worthy of even one star.... The chardonnay on the other hand was very nice.... Hubbys moretti was chilled and of a standard. But left 1/4 of the pint due to being put off with his food.
We've not dined out together for a while due to work and commitments... so was really looking forward to this evening, especially after reading all the good reviews... But will never dine here again.
Turn the heating up. Tweak the starters. Ditch the freezer food. & the spaghetti...
Read moreWe booked a table for two and arrived five minutes early. Upon arrival, there was no one to greet us or direct us to our seats. The bar was unattended, and after five minutes, a bartender appeared, seemingly overwhelmed as they juggled managing the bar, answering the phone, and serving in the restaurant. Clearly understaffed on a Sunday afternoon on the run up to Christmas! Throughout this time, we could hear the chef repeatedly shouting "SERVICE" to no avail.
There were two people ahead of us at the bar. Once they had been attended to, we informed the bartender of our table reservation. We were then shown upstairs to a table and mentioned that we would like to order a bottle of wine.
We waited for 20 minutes without any staff approaching us to take an order or check on us. Rather than going back downstairs to the bar to try and place an order, we decided to leave.
We called The White Bull (just five minutes away) and were fortunate that they could fit us in. On arrival, we were warmly greeted by both the manager and a waiter, shown promptly to our seats, and served a bottle of wine within minutes. Our order was taken within 10 minutes, and we enjoyed an excellent three-course meal with outstanding service and the most delicious food in their lovely atmosphere.
Sadly, this experience at The Plough has shown how much it has declined. We certainly won’t...
Read moreI wanted to share some feedback from my recent visit to The Plough, which unfortunately did not meet expectations.
Upon arrival, we weren’t greeted, and we overheard the kitchen staff shouting "service" several times before any staff member addressed them. This created an uncomfortable atmosphere, which, in hindsight, should have been an early sign to reconsider our visit.
It seemed there were only two staff members on the floor, who were also covering the bar. Considering it was a Sunday afternoon in the lead-up to Christmas, this left the restaurant understaffed and unable to provide the attention customers expect.
After being seated, we waited for 20 minutes with no further interaction or acknowledgement. No one came over to take our order or check in on us. Feeling ignored, we decided to leave.
Service quality should always be a priority, and on this occasion, it was clear that customer care was lacking. I hope this feedback helps improve the experience for...
