The pub has gone downhill since the ownership change. There are a number of issues that still remain after a few recent visits:
Service The service has been poor the last few visits, but particularly poor on Sunday. We waited around 30 minutes for our order to be taken. This was only after I went up to the bar and asked. The girl behind the bar then came to the table herself. After an hour after ordering we had finished the Sunday dinner. Not once were we asked if the meal was okay or if we would like another drink. Another 30 minutes followed where our plates were left on the table and we were not asked about deserts or drinks. After about two hours since we arrived we got up and paid for the food at the bar ourselves. It is worth noting that this was not a busy time at all. By about 5pm we were the only food table left seated. Staff Short staff? There were only two people behind the bar and one waitress visibly working. This was prime time on a Sunday afternoon, which you would think would be when the service is at its best. The three staff where also young and inexperienced. I am all for giving young bar staff and waitress a chance, but they need more guidance or to be working alongside an experienced member to help them out. Food and drink The Sunday lunch is definitely nowhere near as good as it was. The chicken is no longer on the bone and not as good quality. The overall taste is not as good as it was. The gravy used to be very nice, but this recipe has been changed unfortunately for the worse. My partner had an orange and lemonade, but the orange juice used was the last bit in the carton, which tasted like it had gone off. Again, just a lack of experience behind the bar not checking this. Wi-Fi and ordering. The QR codes to order drinks and food to your table still does not work. These QR codes have remained on the tables since the new ownership, but the system seems to be constantly down. Why the are these QR codes still on the tables if they take you to the page, but then don't work? The system has been down the last three times I have been there, just take them off the tables! The first time I went, we sat outside and proceeded to order off the QR code, went through the order and proceeded to pay. After 30/40 minutes I went to the bar to check the order had gone through only to be told that the system isn't working and I had to contact the bank to cancel the payment. The Wi-Fi was also down on Sunday, with no tv on and no phone signal. Not great when you just want to quickly check an email, see the cricket score or show family photos on your phone which are stored on the cloud. This was never an issue under previous ownership, the ordering system worked brilliantly. Booking Table When booking online you can add a note for any requests. We added that we would like a table that had a bit of space alongside for a pram. This was not followed. Luckily the table next to us finished shortly after we arrived so we could use the space around this table.
Overall I am very disappointed with how the pub is turning out and hope that there is a real improvement. We have been going down for Sunday lunch for the last 3/4 years with it being in walking distance from us. I have no allegiance to the previous ownership and didn't have a relationship with them at all, but the difference in quality since the change is there...
   Read moreDonât waste your money or time. 20/03/25 we arrived 5.30, there was a table of two who had finished eating, and a table of 3 waiting for food plus ourselves. Plenty of workers round the bar constantly swearing so not a place for children when âfâ is every other word. Three blokes in their 50âs bragging how many times they had been barred from the place, (three times apparently.) Not the best entertainment whilst you wait over 100 mins for food, well that how long we waited before walking out. We were given a basic menu, no vegan menu (even though I said I was lactose intolerant,) nor were we given the smokehouse menu. (I found out about both on Facebook today.) This is the same place I found out about the steak night, despite the fact that I ordered steak. Three girls behind the bar, two very bubbly the third stated she was in charge in the managers absence, was engaging with the men across the bar with amusing sarcasm. At 6pm a family of 8 who had booked came in. Then 50 minutes after our arrival at 6.20pm our starters arrived. My husband ordered spicy chicken wings - there were two of the tiniest wings weâve ever seen! 90 minutes into our visit we saw just two other plates of food come out, and we asked the girl who said she was in charge âhow long our wait would beâ she went to check and came back several minutes later advising. âThey had a table of 8 to cook for then they could start ours.â We found this unreasonable as we were in first and the response was a sigh, eyes roll and walked away! We felt really sorry for the other two girls especially the petite one, who apologised totally agreed 1hr 50 is too long to wait for food and said âI know itâs ridicules, but we only have one chef onâ. We paid for our drinks and starter, no discount offered, and wonât return to this restaurant where a chef is incapable of cooking 10 meals in two hours.    Read moreJust been for mothers day and i could not have been anymore disappointed. We were told drinks would be taken at the table, we waited, ended up having to go to the bar instead. We were sat for an hour and 25 minutes before our starters were received. I understand its a busy day but thats ridiculous for a starter. We then waited for the mains, we ordered a roast, the mash was instant so that wasnt nice (i dont understand how somewhere cant just make normal mash?) Also, i had 2 carrots, a handful of green beans and a couple of broccoli. The only part of the meal i enjoyed was the meat. We then didnt have much choice for the desserts, i chose to not have one . I still got charged for the full 2 course meal even though i only had a main. I think its ridiculous to charge the same price, i didnt want to pay. The landlady didnt have a plan on how to take payment for everyone (12 of us), she said she'd come take payment at the table, this didnt happen, we had to go pay at the bar.
