We have been to Eric’s a couple of times previously and have been generally happy with both the food and service. On this particular visit the food was okay and the service appalling. The main was outstanding but the sharing plate desserts was a little underwhelming especially when there was a £5 supplement. Two of the three desserts were in my opinion not amazing from a taste perspective and more style over substance. Portion sizes were very good but the quality of food was not up to par on this occasion.
The service from the team was poor. Initially upon entering the restaurant we were greeted by a pleasant gentleman, however it was downhill from there. It took half an hour to get out drinks, the food arrived a little later than expected and then we asked for some glasses of water to have with the meal. I had to remind the waiter about the glasses of water but by then it was as the end of the main course. Plenty of staff dashing about so hard to attract someone attention as we were sat in the corner. It appears the team had almost forgot about us. We were not asked during the meal how things were and were not asked for a refill for any drinks. We had mentioned to two of the waitering staff during the meal the service seemed slow but nothing was rectified.
We arrived at 5:30pm and had a two course meal for my partners 40th birthday, we didn’t leave the restaurant until 7:15pm. There was a couple whom had arrived after us and they had had a three course meal and had left before had finished our dessert of a two course meal. The team could wait their table fast enough but service for our table was appalling and not try standard I am used to.
Everything took painfully long and at the end of of it I could wait to leave as we spent what should have been an enjoyable evening just waiting and getting little service.
The new look of the restaurant was excellent and far better than before. We actually prefer fewer tables as for me I don’t like to feel I am dining with every other person in the restaurant. So less tables added to a more relaxed evening. Usually the person next to me feels like they are part of my table and you feel cramped. This can be both disturbing and irritating when trying to have a conversation and you have louder groups in.
Good see the restaurant taking government guidelines seriously for Covid 19 as I am a key worker and that did impress me, well apart from the waiting staff wearing the face covering below their nose which imakes the mask redundant. I wear one for 8 hours a day in a demanding environment and it’s not ideal but for the masks to be affective they need to be...

I would say that the food itself is worthy of 4 stars, however the service was shambolic and would rate this 0 stars, hence why I have gone down the middle with a 2 star average.
The reason why I have given the food 4 stars is because 4 of the people in our party ordered the soup and all 4 of them agreed that the soup was cold and had to send it back. I appreciate this may be more a service issue rather than a food issue but either way this shouldn't be served cold. All the other food that was ordered was of a high standard.
The reason why I have only given the service 0 stars is as follows:
1- I ordered the Magic Rock brewery beer but asked what specific beer it was as they make multiple and there is a certain one that I dislike... however after asking 3 times gave up when I got the response of "I don't know it just says Magic Rock". Seriously?! ask someone else if you don't know because someone must know what beer you're serving!!! 2 - We reserved a table for 11 + a high chair however the table was only set for 10 + high chair and we had to squeeze on. 3 - When the bread came we asked for some more as there wasn't enough and the response we got was "There should be 10 pieces on the table" which there were but again they forgot that we were a party of 11 + a high chair. Even if there was enough bread on the table i don't understand why asking for a few more pieces should get such a negative response. 4 - Two people in our party weren't having starters to start but wanted them to come out with the mains so they could eat with everyone else but low and behold they came out as a starter. 5 - One persons main course was completely missed off and a couple people had finished eating before they eventually got their meal. 6 - White wine was served in a brandy glass... 7 - The wrong deserts were brought to the table. 8 - Tea and coffee took well over 20 minutes to arrive at the table and my cappuccino was cold. 9 - Tea and coffee was held above customers head while leaning over to place on table.
I should note that we were given complimentary glasses of prosecco by means of an apology for the cold soup but again we were only given 10 glasses (forgetting yet again that there were 11 adults in our party).
This restaurant is certainly not cheap and you would expect and receive far better service from somewhere half the price of this place. You don't mind the odd mistake or having to request or say something once, however when you have to keep repeating yourself and still get ignored it's just not right! It's not difficult!
Very disappointed with my experience at ERICS and won't...
Read moreFood was really good, but on the whole the experience was really poor. We went today for an early dinner, family of 3 adults and 4 children between the ages of 4 and 6. When booking, we had requested for 2 tables together, when we arrived, we were escorted to two separate tables of 4. The waiters were so clueless, that i actually had to tell them, keeping 4 children together on one table away from the adults, could cost them business, before enlightenment dawned and they escorted us to another table that seated 7. Waiters came and took our orders, but were so impatient and rude, that they didn't even check if we had completed our order before leaving the table...we had to call on waiters twice to complete our drinks order, and 2 times to complete our meal order!! When they finally decided to serve the food, and they first brought out the cutlery...this was a complete jokes one of us got 2 knives and a fork, while others got none...the one person who ordered the soup, was actually asked by a waiter AFTER the soup was brought out, " should i get you a soup spoon?" The food, though it tasted delicious, was brought out so haphazardly, one person got a starter, while another got the main and the remaining 5, had to wait for over 30 mins before they got any food. There were no child friendly dishes, apart from Grilled chicken breast with mash! Vegetarian choice was very poor. Then came the billing. They over charged us! When we brought this to the attention of the waiter, he was so impatient, he didn't wait until we had told him what the calculation errors were. He partially corrected it, by now, we were fed up of our experience, so we paid and left! If you are going for a meal by yourself, the food is 👍, but if going there for a celebration or a family night out....go...
