Poppa Piccolinos — Restaurant in Kirklees

To start the food… I ordered tortellini, this wasn’t freshly made but the cheap dry stuff you can get from any supermarket. In fact I’ve had better quality tortellini from Aldi so really disappointing; the sauce was nice however. My husband ordered ribs to start, these were more oriental than Italian? They were ok but not what he’d expected. There’s also Malaysian food on the menu which is confusing. It just doesn’t seem authentic. We had thought the same 7 years ago when we last came and hoped it might have changed, but no. Secondly, the atmosphere… Most of the staff were lovely and obviously rushed off their feet, however the owner just created quite a stressful environment. The minute we walked in we heard him shout ‘who are these people?!’ We had booked but he still sounded angry from the get go. Throughout the evening, he continued with comments like this. The poor couple next to us had been waiting an hour to order, he argued with this of course. They had been. I visited Poppa Piccolinos tonight with my family. The lovely restaurant is in a beautiful, central location in Holmfirth. It is easy to get to and there is a lot of parking nearby. The restaurant was busy and had a great atmosphere. The welcome we received from staff was warm and inviting and from the moment we sat down, waiting staff were very attentive. The food is absolutely beautiful. The flavours are amazing and you absolutely won’t leave hungry! The portions are fantastic. The owners are kind people who are also very attentive and make it feel extra special. It has lovely decor and the restaurant is very clean. Will absolutely visit again with friends and family as it’s a new favourite for just a family get together or a celebration.

The bread was microwaved to warm up, this turned it tough to eat. We had to ask twice for water, it was not busy. We ordered a main course, given a choice of mild, medium or spicy, we ordered mild. The meal was very spicy and could not eat it. The staff noticed my wife didn't eat it but waited till later to ask. Too late to replace. Not impressed with the pizza's. Never go again. I would like to amend my review after my wife and I visited for the second time and discussed the review with Ben Lym. We cannot fault the service, very attentive, polite and helpful. We cannot amend what we stated in our initial review because what happened happened. We can however understand the situation that first night and that our second meal was very good.
