Tap House Bar & Bistro — Restaurant in Kirklees

We arrived around 5pm on Sunday 16/6 and were ignored by the man behind the bar, we tried to make eye contact to say hello but there was nothing from him, it was like we didn't exist and there was only 1 other table there (a table of 3 for Fathers Day). The guy left the bar and went into the kitchen, we kept looking as there was a glass window in the door and could see him there but we were ignored for 5 minutes so we left. A real shame as we would have spent a lot on food and drinks and had highlighted Tap House as a point to visit but on reflection, only 3 people there on Fathers Day at 5pm when most others that we passed in the town were very busy (including the restaurant next door Lou and Joes Burger). It was our first stop in Holmfirth and thank goodness our other experiences were positive. Based on our own experience we wouldn't recommend, it doesn't take any effort to acknowledge your customers and just say 'Hi, sorry I will be with you in a minute' but in this instance, we were just ignored, we were not important enough to say hello. We only went in there for a beer and glass of wine, but having perused the menu we cancelled the reservation we had across the road and opted for the meat meze board, a side of olives and garlic mushrooms We were not disappointed, it was excellent, the mushrooms were with roasted garlic which were soft and delightful. The olive bread was very tasty, with big chunks of olive through it. The rest of the meze was superb, the meats were so moist and the humous was so clearly homemade. All in all my only complaint, if you could call it that, was that the olives could have been better marinated but that really is nit picking. Good food. Disappointed that they were unable to make a simple deviation from their menu. They were not willing to give my wife a chicken breast with vegetables even though all ingredients are on the menu. To enable her to achieve said requirement she had to order a chicken burger with no bun and no chips, and veg on the side. Waitress was no help at all. So, if you have special dietary needs that require some flexibility of the items listed on the menu, I am sure there are other establishments in Holmfirth that would be more suitable.
