We booked a table for 3 in the dog friendly area for a birthday celebration. We got there today just as they had opened, but didn't get much of a welcome upon arrival except to be shown to our table.
The menu looks amazing, so much choice and so many dishes you don't see very often if at all in other places. We were very excited.
As the waitress hadn't told us whether we ordered at the table or the bar, we did go to the bar. (However i have seen another review about the waitress taking orders quickly, so I am confum
At the bar we ordered 3x starters, 3x mains and 3x drinks, I wasn't too impressed with the service there either, whilst ok it wasn't friendly, in fact at no point during the visit did we feel particularly welcome.
The starters arrived and they did not disappoint.1xYorkshire Rarebit (trio of puds) and 2x Chicken Shashlik, all of which were very well present, tasted lovely and certainly went down a treat.
We waited a while for the mains, which was good as it gave us time to enjoy the starters and not rushed as is the case in some places. However, when the mains arrived, our starter plates were still on the table. The waitress put 2 of the meals on the table and passed the third over to one of our party, without saying the plate was very hot. 1x Inside out Chicken Kiev meal was a good sized portion and well presented as was the Chicken, Bacon and Mushroom pie. The third meal did disappoint slightly as the belly pork piece was so tiny, it was lost in a bowl of mash and veg, having said that it was tasty, coincidentally that was served in a bowl where as the other 2 meals were on plates, (despite the pie also been from the winter warmer menu). So not sure what that was about.
I had paid the bill in cash already, but decided on more drinks and desserts. We ordered 2 more drinks and 1 Chocolate Torte, 1 Sticky Toffee pudding and a Toffee & Apple crumble. After a couple of minutes the waitress came to say they had no crumble, so we replaced it with bread and butter pudding. It is actually a good job she came however, otherwise the empty meal plates would have been there when the desserts arrived. All 3 desserts were excellent and rounded off an excellent meal..
Overall, we were impressed with the food, atmosphere and decor but not as impressed with the service. No one came to check if everything was ok on any courses As.it was our first time visiting, we are not sure if they were busy, short staffed or we'd been forgotten about because we were in the dog area and obviously we had nothing to gauge it against
To conclude, the overall we would visit again, and have already planned to do so, because the food is so nice, we will then be able to judge the service on a second visit.
A very clean, well presented restaurant, nice background music, not at all intrusive, good atmosphere and...
Read moreWent out for a family members Birthday. There were 2 young members of staff waiting on wearing black, a young man behind the bar and an older lady behind the bar. We ordered our drinks and the fresh orange was taken away due to it been too concentrated and a J20 was offered in place of the fresh orange. We had to wait for the table as the people before us had not finished when we arrived at our reservation time. The lady in blue was rude and quite abrupt in her manner. The young lady who took our order was friendly and professional, she finished her shift not long after we ordered our food. The other young lady had a big 17 badge on and was also lovely and professional. Their customer service was very good and their parents should be proud. The food was nice but a little disappointing as some of the chicken pieces were raw. At first it looked like it was where the bone had been but when pressed with the napkin it left a blood mark. We told the young lady who said she would let the chef know and come back for the dish. The lady in blue came and we explained the other lady had said she was coming back for the dish to show the chef, the response was oh and she took away the dish with no apology. When the dessert came the cheesecake was frozen, you couldn't get the spoon through it, we sent it back and another piece came which had been warmed in the microwave and was still warm, had we known this is what was going to happen we would have made another choice. We waited approximately 15 minutes after we had finished and there were no staff around to ask for the bill. When we went to ask at the bar for the bill the staff were all stood around chatting. When this was addressed the lady in blue laughed in a very sarcastic manner and said.." stood around chatting ha that's the boss." We pointed out that Customer service should come first and as the boss he should know better. We then went to express to said gentleman who she said was the boss about the lack of customer service and the issues mentioned above with the food, he response was "I'll sort it." He said this in a very very dismissive and uninterested manner with no apology. Not sure I will go back. The issues with food yes, could be sorted even an apology would suffice but, the rude and arrogant member of staff and her unsavoury manner was extremely disappointing. For £189 it's not somewhere I will be rushing back to...
Read moreVisited Dusty Miller on 17 December, whilst in the area visiting family, The staff and service were great. The waiting time was quite long to say the place was empty. The Turkey Roulade was pretty abysmal, it was just a lump of something that was cremated at each end, one or two roast potatoes that looked like they had been cooked from frozen, spoonful of mashed potato, seasonal vegetables, well broccoli that I couldn't cut with my knife, beef gravy, was nothing special, apart from the tiny jug it came in, the portion size was pretty poor too, I kept my mouth shut, which is rare for me, as I was with family and small children, ordinarily i would have got up and walked out. So being starving I and a few others ordered dessert, well even smaller portion of Christmas pudding, served on a largish oval plate, the pudding was about the size of a Nice biscuit, that's right the size of a biscuit, with another very small jug of bland sauce, That was quite frankly laughable. All in all not a pleasant meal. I had been there on a few precious occasions, so what has happened over the last few years, I don't know, I do know we will not be returning. Did get nice Fish & Chips when I got...
