Extremely disappointing experience and would not recommend!
The scallop starter was so tiny and overcooked. Flooded with cheese and oil. Hardly and flavour. I think we paid around £14.00.
The lamb rump main was around £33.00 or so and was also disappointing. The tomato and rosemary sauce that flooded the plate, reminded me of Heinz cream of tomato soup and the lamb was so pink it was almost raw. The top was crispy but was over salted. It came with two pieces of broccoli which were probably the best part. There was a pulled lamb type of crispy parcel that came on the side but it looked so bad when I cut into it, I couldn't stomach eating it. It looked old.
My partner had the pate which was just dyer. One small piece of pate with two pieces of spinach leaves and one tablespoon of chutney. There was two pieces of toasted bread which looked ok. Nothing special at all. He had the pork main (pork three ways) it was nothing special either.
No care or attention to detail either!
I'd also asked for some other type of potato other than mash. I was given flavourless Dophinoise which I'd requested with the lamb. The handle was so hot on the server that it came in, I had scalded myself. No prior warning of this when the manager served it. It was just flung on the table with no care.
The overall service wasn't great and the food was below average. I would not call this a fine dining restaurant as described.
I suffer with anxiety and when I plucked up the courage to complain, the Manager totally dismissed my comments and provided me with no resolution. I said that we were not prepared to pay full price. I was then faced with a lot of attitude and an abrupt response. I ended up crying which was very embarrassing. I recieved no empathy or apology. I was totally dismissed as a customer and I felt small and un-welcomed.
With the cost of living we felt completely ripped off. Hiked up prices with below average food. A misleading advertisement of fine dining.
Not sure why people rave about this place. Unsure if the food was better quality before or if the chef was better previously.
We wish we had not listened to the recommendations we were given. We give 1/5 stars. We will never return not...
Read moreI think some of the reviews are a bit unfair. I have eaten at the olive branch 3 times now in big and small groups and all occasions the staff have worked really hard and achieved good services for a busy restaurant. Not to mention the chef. We ate late Sunday the last time and the beef was melt in your mouth which is a rare occurance. As far as the decor I think its OK its a country pub and it should stay that way. If people are wanting modern then there are plenty of bistros dotted around in town centres. I don't think the price is expensive if you have the sunday lunch if you choose the a la carte you expect to pay more. As far as I can see the only negative I agree on is the choice of vegetables on the Sunday lunch. However I am aware of rising costs of food and fuel and staff wages so I guess they need to tighten their belts somewhere. I...
Read moreWe went here for a meal with my parents as a family, we checked the menu online and it seemed a little expensive but we decided to try it anyway. There are a couple of rooms, the one at the back in which we were seated had a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside. I decided to go for the three course meal, my main course was particularly good, belly pork with Yorkshire puddings and vegetables. I'm not very good with vegetables, in fact I hardly eat any, this time I finished the whole plate! The only thing I would change about this place was the music. I felt like I was sat in my teenagers room, this however made my kids feel more at home I suppose. In conclusion then this place is expensive but in my opinion you get what you pay for, so I will definitely be going here again, but perhaps just as a couple, and I might bring a chill out...
