The New Mason Arms — Restaurant in Leeds

I arrived to check in and the first thing I noticed was the really strong smell of mold and how dirty the room was. It was difficult to locate exactly where the mold came from as it has been painted over but you can see faint black spots behind the bed and in the bathroom. The room was totally freezing - it doesn’t help that the outside door to the annex corridor where the room is situated is left open so it is only an internal door to the outside. Radiator didn’t work so I went to the adjoining bar (note - very noisy) where the landlord was having a party and asked him to help me. He offered to turn the heating on remotely but I advised that the radiator wasn’t on and completely cold and would he please come to the room and check. He refused to take 2 minutes to check and told me that I could f* off and go back to my f*ing freezing room and just generally swearing and shouting. I told him to calm down as I was totally shocked that he was so abusive and threatening and it was not appropriate and he said to me that if I continued to complain he was canceling my reservation, would come to my room and throw me out on the street. He was unstable and volatile (!!!) so I left as I did not feel safe.. I advised this to company I booked with and he responded with accusations against me (??) which I am sure he will also do to this review. Been a couple of times before and its always been ok. Little bit disappointed this time though. Went as a group of 9 for a double family birthday. Table booked for 6 pm, all arrived and sat down by 6 but meals didn't arrive until 7.10. If we had been told there was a delay it wouldn't have been a problem, we're very easy going but we could have requested the child's meal to be brought earlier. She struggled waiting until that time and it spoilt the event somewhat. The people on the next table arrived 20 minutes after us and had nearly finished their meal when ours was arriving. It wasn't an especially busy evening, I wouldn't have said the pub was completely full. Staff were pleasant, food was ok, veggie chilli seemed to be a very small portion. Prices are not outrageous although it was a more expensive evening than planned because of buying extra rounds of drinks while waiting.

FYI we were ready to order shortly after arrival and had waited so long to order we had just written down everyone's choice to go to the bar to order ourselves when someone took the order at 6.29. I think I gave an even handed polite review and meals an hour and 10 minnutes after arrival in a pub isn't that great whatever you say, even 40 minutes isn't fantastic. A quick mention to us that it was going to be over half an hour from ordering would have made...
