We visited this Toby carvery previously for a carvery meal after a day out in Leeds and liked it, so being in Leeds again today, we decided to return.
On arrival, we were shown to a table. When the waitress took our order, we asked for carvery and refillable soft drinks. We were told that we could go up for the carvery when we were ready and she would bring our glasses.
We decided to wait for our glasses before queueing for the carvery. After about 10 minutes, we hadn't received our glasses and were looking for a waitress to ask about them.
Just as we were about to leave, Hannah was passing so I asked her how much longer it would be for our glasses and she said she would check. She seemed confused as she passed our table a couple of times before returning with our glasses.
We then got our drinks and carvery.
After our carvery, we were looking at the puddings on the menu when Hannah returned, so we asked what today's crumble and sponge were. Hannah said she thought the crumble was apple and the sponge usually had jam on it. She asked if we were ready to order but we wanted a bit more time. A couple of minutes later, Beth was passing so we asked her to confirm the sponge and crumble flavours. Beth said the sponge was a glazed sponge and the crumble was apple and plum.
My partner chose the crumble and I chose a cookie dough ice cream sundae. When Beth returned with the puddings, she told my partner that it was apple and blackberry and asked if it was still okay for her, my partner was still happy. I think it had been apple and plum through February and Beth had been so used to apple and plum, she'd not realised that the crumble had changed as today was 1st March.
All in all the food was nice, but the service problems let this Toby down today.
We shouldn't have been waiting over 10 minutes to get glasses so we could have a drink and the waiting staff should be told at the start of their shift, what the sponge and crumble are. Hannah could have easily gone into the kitchen to check rather than saying "I think it is apple" and "it usually...
Read moreReturn? No chance....arrived 5 minutes before booked time. Took to table, was asked what drinks we wanted and if we (2 x adults, 2 x children) were all having carvery. We said no. No options given. As we looked around we noticed everybody sweating and the condensation on the windows was the worst I have ever seen. There were no windows open, no air conditioning, no fans operating. It was horrendous. We were sat at our table for nearly 15 minutes when we started talking between us, as to what we should do. No drinks had arrived, nobody had told us what to do about our carvery. A couple on the next table overheard us and said we need to go to the carvery. Yet the waiter never told us that. And the drinks still had not arrived. We were contemplating leaving the restaurant and telling them to stuff it, when my daughters meal arrived and the waiter came up with a poor excuse of something wrong with the drink pump. We decided to stay at that point. The meat that was on offer was to be honest the fattiest I have ever had at a carvery.....and the smallest pieces. The veg was very tasty to be fair, and plenty on offer. Half way through our meal the waiter approached us asking if the food was ok, we said yes just to please him. He then seemed to tick a box on his ipad. Seriously?? One diner sent his deserts back as he said it was over dry. Probably overcooked. It didnt look very nice. When finished, we had to wait another 10 minutes for the ordered desserts to arrive. After, we asked for our bill, to be told "yeah I'll be 2 minutes ". 10 minutes later, he arrived with the card machine. We paid and noticed we paid £5 for a pint of Stella, and £5.25 for a glass of wine. Daylight robbery. Not a pleasant experience and we shall not be returning. Get the...
Read moreNever felt so humiliated in my life me and my daughter had came into this toby carvery before travelling 3 hours back to Cumbria the lady who originally served us was lovely I had explained I’d had weight loss surgery and there for could only eat small amounts to which she said I could have a child’s carvery which was great went up to get the carvery which was understandable busy but because of the queue I was still stood behind people as the chef asked what meat I would like not what size I wanted I didn’t want to have to explain myself in front of others standing behind other people so I automatically ended up with an adults plate, I thought no worries I explained this to our waitress and offered to pay for the adults to which she said it was ok I’d still pay for the child’s but when I said if she had a takeaway box I’d happily pay for the adults she explained she could see what she would do, came back and offered me a roast potato bag 😳 Anyways after barely making a dent in the adults portion I was then having to scrape a whole plate into the bag people were staring I offered to buy a takeaway box but was told I couldn’t it was for delivery or take out service only! If I’d of known this I’d of ordered take out and enjoyed the 8 mouthfuls I had and not had to walk out with a soggy bag! With people staring wondering why my whole dinner had been put in there! This was the only thing that put me off I understand people may of abused the idea of takeaway boxes but for me I genuinely just wanted to be able to take what I left from the one plate 😢 apart from this the original waitress I...
