We booked a table of 10 and were required to pay a £10pp deposit which seemed a lot but we paid as we understand Sundays are busy and they need tables etc. Upon arriving we sat at our table and waited around 5/10 minutes, no one came. No menus were on the table so we asked at the bar if we could see menus, the lady came over and said they don’t actually have a physical a menu and just told us the 3 meat options (sandwiches and Yorkshire pudding wraps advertised on the board). We ordered our food at the bar and after about 10 minutes we were told ‘there’s not a right lot of beef for the roasts do you want another meat with it aswell’ so those who had roasts chose a second meat alongside the beef. 2 of us ordered sandwiches which was a plain ciabatta and a tiny bit of beef (pictured). Sadly everyone on the table agreed the mash tasted of margarine and the veg of vinegar, roast potatoes and gravy was really nice. By this time we had been there 2 hours and wanted to pay, to which we were told it’s £20 for 2 courses regardless of whether you have the dessert or not so those who had a roast chose a dessert. We asked to have them to takeaway and they said sticky toffee pudding can’t be as it comes with custard so we said no worries we will have them here, again took about 20 minutes to come and STP actually came with ice cream? Overall we were quite disappointed and felt the staff were quite rude, when we came to pay the lady was on the verge of a break down trying to work it out for us as she was super...

Not far from a 5 star for me as the place was nice and the food was good. It is dog friendly so that is a bonus and the beer garden is nice and clean. My only complaint is the portion size of the food for the price. The burger was absolutely spot on in taste, it was seasoned perfect. The burger was definitely in my top 10 of homemade burgers from pubs and I've had a lot. The chips were also enjoyable too but like I say the portions were small including the burger. I do like my food but normal portions will leave me feeling satisfied. When paying over a tenner for a burger you shouldn't be leaving still feeling like you could eat something else. Apart from that I will definitely try again if in the area and hopefully by then bigger portions. Also cheese should be standard on a burger, not an...

Had a lovely walk from Rodley along the river Aire and back along the cut. Been traveling a few days and decided we deserve to eat out. Arrived here at 16.35. Entered, looked at the various pumps, a gent behind the bar looked at us, we ordered a couple of drinks and asked for a menu "we don't serve food until five", his first and only words. We asked if we could still see the menu, he reluctantly handed one over. Not a "Hello can I help you", not a "of course you can look at the menu but the kitchen won't be of for another 25 minutes". We would have been willing to wait, have another pint, eat, and maybe another pint or two, for the right host. Very disappointed, your loss. If you can't make the effort to be polite and courteous please don't turn up...

A popular pub in a prime location by the side of the Leeds/Liverpool canal in Rodley. The problem on a sunny Saturday afternoon here is parking. A recent addition of a small tea room across the road has doubtless increased the issue for local residents. If you're lucky enough to find a spot to park, then the next challenge in good weather is finding an outside table at either to sit at. At the pub there was additional space on a grassed area that appeared to be closed so I watched as several couples searched without success for a seat. On the plus side, The Railway is child and dog friendly, has decent service, a limited but well priced pub grub menu and serves a well kept pint of Timothy Taylors Boltmaker.

First time eating here this week, it’s a regular stop on our walks along the canal but have never been for food before. I’m not often a big fan of pub food - I often find it too “try hard” or too “not tried enough”. The menu here is very simple, but the food is outstanding quality and incredible value. A lot of thought obviously goes into creating and making it. We ordered salad and hand cut fries, but we saw steaks and burgers that looked incredible. We will be going back to try more of the menu. It’s pet and child friendly, and has a lovely welcoming atmosphere.
