I visited The Anchor Inn today for a Sunday roast, hoping to enjoy a nice meal and atmosphere. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. While sitting in the garden, there were two large dogs roaming around that did not appear to belong to any customers. When our food arrived, one of the dogs ran towards our table and attempted to reach our plates. Despite my husband’s repeated efforts to gently move the dog away, it continued circling our table, drooling and trying to get to our food.
I have a fear of dogs as well as an allergy, so this situation made me feel very anxious and uncomfortable. I was unable to enjoy my meal and had to leave the table after only a few bites. What made the situation even more upsetting was that staff members and other guests saw what was happening but did nothing to remove the dog or assist us.
As a result, I left without being able to eat the meal I had paid for, and my Sunday was completely ruined. I am very disappointed by both the lack of control over the premises and the absence of support...
Read moreThis is the Anchor Inn in Barcombe just to be clear that I'm making this review about. Very disappointing reception by owner. I've been a punter for 16 years and have had many a function there. Near enough as November last year for my son's 21st. Where let's just say enough was spent. Today a friend of mine and I walked from Lewes to Barcombe. Once there we thought we would have a quencher but it wasn't open. Fair Enough with limited opening hours now. We sat down outside to rest our feet when to our surprise the owner opened up. We asked even though he wasn't officially opening may we use the facilities as we had been walking for a good hour and a half. You would of thought that it would be no problem but his response was so dismissive and shocking. We were flawed. It does not encourage us to support them now after all these years. And since this I've shared my experience with friends and they have agreed with me saying they too have had a similar experience with this man. It's such a shame that a new owner of a landmark pub can ruin...
Read moreI visited the old style Anchor once in many years! The new improved Anchor has seen me twice in a month! New decor, new staff and new mmmmmenu! Eclectic furniture (my husband swapped seats as he was too low in the domestic comfy to eat at the table) open fires, locals galore, so they approved as well. I'd give a service charge each visit because I'd want to. No fancy, idiotic way out food, so don't go if you're looking for Pattagonian red backed goose served on a bed of spiralina with currant jus! Good, massive servings of proper food. Burgers and chips (not in a stupid basket) or local prize winning sausage and mash, to a full on roast lunch with all the trimmings (not served on a piece of slate as a plate) daily specials and deserts to make you say "Yes" even though you are bursting from the huge portions. Good selection of booze at the bar and table, all reasonably priced, not too expensive, or cheap and nasty. What else can I say? I'll be visiting the same pub three times within...
