Disappointing Dining Experience
Our experience at this establishment was far from satisfactory. Initially, we were optimistic upon arrival, as the pub was bustling with patrons.
However, our expectations quickly diminished once we were seated. Service began promptly, with drinks arriving almost immediately and our food order taken without delay.
However, during our wait for the meal, a door was blown open by the wind, allowing dust and dirt to circulate through the pub. The amount of debris resembled a snowstorm, settling into food and drinks throughout the room. This suggested a significant lack of cleanliness, as such a volume of dust indicates months of inadequate maintenance.
Our meals arrived astonishingly fast, within 10 minutes of placing the order. Unfortunately, the speed was reflected in the quality. The food was clearly prepared from frozen ingredients, lacking flavor and freshness. The gravy was overly thick, with a syrup-like consistency that clung to the plate. The Yorkshire pudding was inedible due to an unpleasant taste, and the majority of our meals were left untouched.
After finishing, we waited an excessive 45 minutes for our plates to be cleared and for dessert to be offered. Ultimately, we had to approach the bar multiple times to request the bill.
While the pub's affordability (approximately ÂŁ11 per meal, including dessert) may explain its popularity, the low cost is unfortunately mirrored in the poor quality of the food and subpar service.
We cannot recommend this venue and strongly advise others to seek alternative dining options.
Thank you for taking the time to respond to my review, I appreciate the chance to add further clarification to my original review. I would like to address some of the points you raised to clarify my experience further:
Dust and Debris: While I understand that Storm Bert caused high winds, the debris in the pub was not leaves but fine white particles. These settled on our clothes and drinks, which we had to brush off multiple times. I may also suggest that the particles may have been ash from the fire place, but it was not leaves. At no point did I suggest locking the fire exit; I only expressed concern about the cleanliness inside the establishment.
Food Quality: I appreciate that your food is prepared from fresh ingredients; however, the taste and texture of our meal did not reflect that. While I did not comment on the desserts being frozen, we were never given the opportunity to try them as we were not given the opportunity to place a dessert order.
Service Timing: I did not criticize the quick service of our drinks and food; in fact, I noted this efficiency positively. My complaint about timing was regarding the prolonged wait (45 minutes) to have our plates cleared or to place a dessert order, which ultimately led us to seek the bill ourselves.
Making Complaints Known: We did raise our concern about the prolonged wait at the end of the meal. However, had any staff checked on us after serving the food, we would have shared our feedback sooner. Unfortunately, the lack of follow-up left us waiting for an extended period without assistance. I take your point on board that we could have raised more of our complaints with you at the end, but we were in a rush to get home by that point.
Posting on Multiple Platforms: Sharing reviews on Google and TripAdvisor is a way to provide honest feedback for both the business and future patrons. My intent was not to cause harm but to share my experience. Reviews help establishments grow and improve while allowing potential customers to make informed decisions.
I hope this clarifies my perspective. I wish your business success in addressing the concerns raised. My intention was never to cause conflict but simply to share my honest observations. This review is only based on our experience and what we received.

Read moreI have visited the Green Man pub a few times, weekdays and weekends, and have always loved the whole package - the building, the decor, the food, the ambience. In a dark wet night, it is quite hard to see the pub from the road until almost passing it. It doesnât have the garish lights and typical pub flashes outside to announce itself, and that for me makes it even more desirable, a little mysterious, and quite like discovering a magic place in a fairy tail forest. Plenty of parking, but very dark. Once you find where the entrance doors are (none of them lighted well), you enter into the old imposing building, met by the warm glow of fairy lights (when strung up), fire places, little alcoves, warm welcoming atmosphere, and quick and helpful staff. Although large, the place is very cosy! The house seems to be loved by the locals, and there is even a tiny local choir rehearsing on Sunday night quietly in one of the corner alcoves - a charming addition to the whole experience. The menu is plentiful. The food is just the best - congratulations to the chef! Large portions filled with fresh ingredients cooked to a perfection. Plenty of drinks choice. The pub is just a few minutes away from Glyndeborne - the famous opera complex, and a visit before or after a performance can easily add to the overall experience for...
Read morePassed by many times, but never been in. Well shame on me. I went with a group of friends and didn't regret it. The 10 of us booked a table and rightfully so as the place was packed.
We all had a mixture of items and I heard no complaints from anyone. The specials menu looked fantastic even if the wagyu burger did sadly sell out just before we sat down. I instead opted for a steak and kidney suet pudding. It arrived with mash and veg. The portions are enormous and well worth their money.. Unfortunately for me, due to medical conditions,I left best pat of 60% of my meal.
I didn't go for dessert, but the rest of my group did (one of them had two as he couldn't decide) and they were beautiful. With the sizes, I think anyone having the banoffee pie would get their weekly potassium intake with one slice*.
Overall, a brilliant meal and I'd definitely return.
My only tiny niggle was the parking. I didn't see any disabled bays. IF there were any, they were taken up, but they are also not marked clearly too. Even with someone on a disabled bay, you can normally identify what kind of space it is.
The desserts come in two sizes and I'm referring to...
