George & Dragon — Restaurant in Lichfield

We ate here yesterday at lunch time and the credit crunch menu is excellent value. However, we went there again in the evening with friends and three out of the four meals were fine. But I ordered the cheese and broccoli bake. It should have been called cheese and potato bake with broccoli garnish. It consisted of sliced new potatoes with very little broccoli in a lot of cheese sauce. I asked for more broccoli because there was more potato than broccoli but was promptly told there was no more. I should think there was one piece of broccoli cut up. I was not offered anything else and in hind sight perhaps I should have insisted because my meal mainly consisted of chips and new potatoes in a cheese sauce. My partner and friend left a tip but that was for the other meals, had it been on my meal alone we would not...

When I passed through Alrewas - about eight or nine years ago - and visited The George and Dragon for an evening meal which turned out to be the worst meal I had ever had - anywhere, and I have travelled the world quite extensively, it was nothing short of vile. On the odd occasion of passing through and noticing that it had changed hands but I had neither the interest or inclination to visit again - until last night. The first obvious thing to notice was the decor - very nice and the warm welcome of the staff as open and genuine. The meal ordered arrived very quickly and was piping hot and after consuming I was sated.
