The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Clearly working hard to manage the customers they had and were attentive to our needs. The level of service from the staff was the saving grace for our experience here. We were shocked and disappointed at the quality of food from this pub. The food was awful and in places actually indedible. The prices are not reflective of the poor quality. We spent £52 for a family of four to be given food which was of worse quality than what I could buy in a supermarket for a tenth of the price.
I am so appalled that a company such as Marstons would serve such low grade food to customers whilst still charging such prices. Plus there is room for the kitchen staff here to be given time to visually inspect the food before they send out to customers. If it looks terrible on the plate then it shouldn't be sent out! My sons mash potato looked like it had been trodden in. The sausages and fish fingers were such low quality - utterly tasteless and gritty in texture. My steak & ale pie had thick gluteness pastry and barely any filling. The best part of the meals was the gravy. Lord knows where the peas are from, they look half dead, a horrid, pale green/yellow colour and half of them squashed - is it really that difficult to boil a few frozen peas in a pan? And the Halloumi fries - which weren't even fresh. They were awful! Clearly fried in old oil and completely inedible.
I really hope someone can read this and review any changes that may be possible. I understand theres a cost of living crisis affecting businesses too but this is just not acceptable standards and we shouldn't be expected to pay these prices for...
Read moreCannot praise the team at Longwood highly enough. From the ease of booking to follow up emails and texts reminding and welcoming us to our visit. Shown to table upon arrival and before the time booked we were left to peruse the menus. Smooth ordering at the bar, tab kept open for further drinks and other foods. Were told, with much apologies our food would be apprx half hour, none of us fussed as it allowed time for conversation and a wait of that time confirmed to us our food was going to be freshly cooked and not a pre-frozen microwave meal. Meals were bought out to our table for all members of our party at the same time so no-one was left waiting. Staff were professional but friendly, all meals were hot and cooked to perfection, all members were happy and full at the end of it. Ambiance was just right, beautifully clean, warm and welcoming. All staff from the Manager onwards obviously work together as an excellent team, most relaxing with no indication they were waiting for us to leave even though the restaurant area was busy and full. Vouchers for 30% off mains was an added bonus, smooth transaction for payment of the final total. We are already discussing our return as a widely spread geographically family . The Longwood Manager and their team are a true asset to the company. Loved that themed evening promotions were well advertised and described and of great interest to us all, meaning we will more than happily return in the future and all left with smiles on our faces....
Read moreReally disappointed! We used to visit the longwood regularly pre covid. Tonight was the first visit for a few years and I can’t believe how downhill it has gone. We ordered food at 7pm, at time of ordering we were told 35/40 mins which was no problem. At an hour we started to wonder what was going on however clearly an issue as other people were going up questioning where food was. There was only half a pub of seated tables so not exactly ‘busy’ in comparison to how I’ve seen it before. In the end we waited over an hour and a half. Staff seemed blunt and a ‘cba’ sort of attitude. A half hearted apology - no offer of a free drink. We also over heard the table next to us having to report hairs in their food which they said they were taking photos of. So when our food eventually came, you’d expect hot food…nope, Luke warm at the best but given the staff were avoiding people we had gone past wishing to complain knowing it wasn’t going to go anywhere further. No table check either. I think it seemed fairly obvious that staff knew service was poor and we’re doing their best to hide out the back on their mobiles to avoid dealing with the issues.
Such a shame but no I will not be returning after such a shambles, nor will I be recommending this place again. I believe it may have recently changed hands - shame it’s gone...
