DON'T HEDGE YOUR BETS ON THIS PLACE.
We had booked a 7:30 table at the Hedgehog (29.10.24) for a Birthday meal.
Prior to taking our orders we were told that the 'signature burger' was not available which was unfortunate as the birthday girl had decided that' was what she wanted. Anyway, after a few minutes we decided on 3 x beef bourguignon's and 1 x fish cake.
We ordered a sharing platter as a starter along with some calamari. A few minutes later the waitress came back and told us that there but no beef bourguignons left which was quite annoying as myself and my son were really looking forward to it and now the birthday girl's second choice was also not available.
Whilst trying to decide what other dishes we were going to choose we were then told that one of the items on the sharing platter (the pulled pork and apple bonbons) were also not available so had to choose another alternative.
A short while later whilst still trying to decide what we were going to have for our mains the sharing platter and the calamari arrived..... unfortunately both meals were cold to the touch!!
It was at this point we decided we wanted nothing more to do with this restaurant. We finished our drinks which I insisted were free at this point and left.
How can such a large establishment (somewhere we have been a couple of times in the past) owned by one of the largest pub chains (M&B) get it so wrong.
There is obviously something seriously wrong with your system. Surely in today's high-tech world every waiter or waitress should have the ability to know exactly what is or isn't on the menu prior to taking people's orders without having to keep going backwards and forwards to the customer saying menu items are not available once orders have been placed. Also why can't you keep enough stocks of every meal to ensure this doesn't happen.
Not only was it a special birthday meal but we had travelled 30 minutes to get to this restaurant.
What a very poor and disappointing experience.
Luckily we went to a pub a few minutes away called the Bowling Green. They managed to get us a table and provide us with hot food that we had chosen first time.
Ironically this pub is also...
Read moreWe went as a group of 8 on boxing day. We pre ordered. When we arrived we were waiting a short while before we were seated which was understandable. Starters were great tasty. We had to wait a long time for them. Next up was the mains. Well they were nice and enjoyable. However 7 out of 8 pre ordered meals were not as described on the menu. Items substituted as they didn't have what we pre ordered. The sides we ordered extra were forgotten completely dispite being read back to us to double check the order when we sat down. 3 of the sides were sent back as they had substituted items off the menu with the sides we had ordered. Ie a meal that was supposed to have dauphinoise potato was served with roast potatoes that meal was ordered with a side of roast potatoes. The cauliflower cheese i was supposed to have with my meal arrived 10 minutes after I had finished plus it was very undercooked and was still hard. The deserts 7 out of 8 were correct. However dispite pre ordering so the kitchen knew what was needed they had run out of one of the deserts so we were forced to have something else. We weren't happy at all. What is the point of pre ordering if they don't have what you ordered a month before. The sides were taken off the bill and were were offered a coffee however the meal took so long we had run out of time due to work shifts for some of the our group. We left feeling dissapointed with a meal that cost almost £400. We won't be bothering there again. There was one member of staff that seemed to be doing all of the work and he was the one who helped sort out the mess of our meal. He deserved a medal. Sadly there won't be a repeat visit from any of us...
Read moreAVOID THE HOTEL AT ALL COSTS. So we stayed for 2 nights, at the end of trip, so we could see friends, we chose this as it was near to them. From the outside it looked OK, as soon as we got to the internal stairs a big change, grubby dirty carpet up to the room. SEE PHOTOS We entered and there was an unpleasant smell from the bathroom. The bathroom was dirty and had no cover over the sink drain, it was an open hole. My towel had a huge rip in it and the toilet seat was stained and broken. The room walls were stained and we could clearly see where a leak had damaged the wall as it was not really repaired. There were ladybirds in the room, a piece of glass on the floor, stained carpet, dirty head board. The only thing clean was the sheets. The breakfast was nice but the waitress was too busy chatting to 2 men in the bar, she noticed us 15 mins after we sat down. Another couple came in and she told them to help themselves to coffee and juice. Then walked off.....there was no coffee and juice she hadn't bothered to refill them, same the next day she was too busy set up oil candles on the tables to look after the guests. We had dinner there one night, our waitress was great, unfortunately we were obviously in the way of the others setting up the Christmas decorations. The manager was busy chatting to a crowd of people while his staff struggled. So we decided to complain. We got an email from the manager asking for my number. I replied. No call nothing. They just want your money. £227 wasted on a pit. Asked for a refund and am...
