Simple modern pub grub from an embarrassing 90's dive
Pint of Doombar had so much line cleaner in it that it resembled a pint of dirty bubble bath water, any barman worth his salt would see would not serve this just from looking at it.
Squid and Chilli sauce, the chef had forgotten about the squid and its came out looking like death and texture resembled a well worn leather wallet, chilli sauce was just chilli sauce from a poor quality bottle.
Roast "ribeye" of beef, Althorp please don't call a cut of meat something that it is clearly not, apart from that the meat was cooked to perfection and the best part of the plate. When making gravy I would recommend that the chef should taste the gravy when making it. Making graving in a roasting tray that has been badly burt will make the gravy taste like charcoal, overcooked veg then tastes like charcoal, soggy Yorkshire pudding then tastes like charcoal... Everything tastes like charcoal and the plate of food is embarrassing.
Pudding was excellent as we decided to leave and get a vienetta on the way home to complete our culinary experience.
All in all, if your charging that kind of money for a plate of food then people will expect a...
Read moreI hosted my cancer remission party at The Althorp on Dec 9 for around 60 guests and I cannot fault them one bit. I had a wonderful experience and the whole Althorp team ensured my evening was perfect! I loved âThe Common Roomâ as it was at the back of the pub and had its own toilets. We were able to play our own music which set the vibe for the night perfectly!!
Whilst the private bar didnât have beer taps nor soda guns this was never an issue as there were always plenty of bartenders on the main bar so you rarely waited! Another bonus for me was that the booking was a minimum spend. The Althorp was understanding that as this was not a Christmas party I was unable to pay hire fees and so to know we just had to spend a certain amount was a relief!! Definitely a BIG recommendation for future events.
The food was delicious!! We had a selection of canapĂ©s that were swept up by the guests!! The little Yorkshire pudding roasties were to die for!! Definitely would come back just for a meal again đ
Thank you so so much to the whole team for making my night a memorable one! I will forever...
Read moreBeen going to the Althorp for years, my wife even had her 40th birthday there several years ago, but won't be back. We have also frequented on Christmas Day many times for drinks (inc last year). This year we turned up 10 mins early and sat outside waiting by the door. Some guy inside grunted something at us before a lady opened the door and without so much as a hello or Merry Christmas, bluntly asked if we had a booking, which we didn't. Even more bounty she replied, 'sorry, bookings only', and quickly shut the door. The text of this dialogue doesn't accurately convey how abrupt and rude this exchange was, on any day, let alone on Christmas Day. Disappointing that walk-ins for drinks are no longer accepted on Christmas Day, but if that's the policy fair enough, but there's a way to treat people, and that isn't it. I appreciate it's Christmas Day, it's busy and it's tough having to work, but I worry in hospitality myself, and if any of my team members were so equally dismissive of our customers I'd know we had the...
