Tucked away in a cul-de-sac off the main road, it's a surprise to see this gorgeous. victorian edifice, unless you're a regular at Anerley Station. Inside, notices up stating that this is an electronic device-free space to encourage social conversation. I wanted to take a photo of the sign for this post but.... Outside rear space with seating unkempt. Leaves everywhere that from their crispy washed-out colour illustrates it's not a priority. East facing it'll only get morning sun anyway. Frontage outside space much more amenable and there are no stairs to negotiate. It's a beautifully decorated traditional pub, spacious and thankfully devoid if sports TVs, music or fruit machines, as it is throughout all the Sam Smith pubs. It's a nice contrast to the norm. Obviously it's all Sam Smith product so don't expect brands. The service was friendly and efficient. I'm afraid I made a mistake asking for a coffee though. Their automated coffee machine needs recalibration...
Read moreVintage vibe — mobile phones not allowed! I really liked this traditional pub and will definitely be back. I do have a few suggestions for the management (others may disagree). I personally like the "no mobiles" rule that they have, but I think they could do it in a more tasteful manner. There's a way to get the message across without it being tacky or overbearing. Secondly, I appreciated that there wasn't loud or obnoxious music... But the complete and total silence is a bit... uncomfortable, especially when the pub is quiet. It would be nice if there was just a tiny little hint of music in the background. Maybe even just traditional folk music or classical even, just to add a bit...
Read moreWev3e played boardgames ay this pub for years. It has a digital detox policy, and its nice to go there to get away from the 'screens'. There is no music either. So you might eother love or hate the atmosphere. I've given it 5 stars for atmosphere because it really suits our needs for playing games, but at the same time if you are looking for the classis 'atmosphere' then you may not find it here. Sometimes though the pub gets busy and there is a wonderful atmosphere here. Also, how's about paying under 4 pounds for a pint! You heard me right. Compared to Crystal Palace pubs that are hitting £7 these days, the Anerley Arms is looking after our wallets as well as our eyes. The pub is equipped with a pool table and a darts table, is dog friendly and the food portions are large and...
